I was burnt by boiling water when my hot water bottle split on Tuesday 19th November 2024. I called 999 and an ambulance was sent to my house within 30 minutes. The paramedics were very helpful, provided me with the initial triage care with some gel to subdue the burns. I received burns to the top of both legs and a more serious burn to my left hand. The male gave treatment calmly with some jokes to ease the situation. Not to mention while I was waiting for them to come (in panic as I was at home alone) someone phoned to give me some advice and to give me company whilst waiting for the Ambulance. I was taken to the A&Emergency Department of Croydon University Hospital on Mayday Road at around 12pm. I waited for a while before being assessed by Cynthia. She calmly and kindly spoke to me and gave treatment to me with great sympathy. I was later sent home with some painkillers. Cynthia gave me lots of sensible advice and realistic timelines as to what to expect for the healing of my injuries. She treated me again on Thursday and Saturday, again with great professionalism. The following week I was treated by Becky, who had all the information on my burns from Cynthia and again I received great care from her all with sympathy and understanding. I was also seen by Dr Kim Loong Tan, who also gave treatment for the burns. He listened to my extra issues and changed the medication accordingly. Finally, Kevan who treated me on Friday 29th November was so happy to see the positive progress of the skin injuries and carried out the treatment with lots of care and was clearly pleased I was recovering well. He called Cynthia and Becky in to show them the progress helped by their professional attention. I could see how they all looked so pleased for me which made me happy about my recovery. I am now in the care of my local Medi Centre. This whole episode has knocked me but I would like to say a heartfelt thank you for all the care and service I received from Croydon University Hospital A&E. I could see the huge workload by the amount of waiting patients in the waiting area that your staff have to deal with every time I was there, but I always saw staff with a calm and kind attitude. I am sure that without the care and attention of those who treated me I would be struggling with my physical and mental wellness so I am greatly humbled by the care given not just to me but to so many people in need of it.
