I received very good care during a visit to A&E on Thursday. I was seen by a triage nurse within 10 minutes of my arrival, then waited to see a doctor. I was there just over 5 hours, but had various tests and saw several different members of staff. I felt my complaint was taken seriously and checked out thoroughly.
Thank you to all the staff who looked after me.
My father was admitted to ward 47 after waiting 9hours in A&E. The following morning my mum and I were trying to contact the ward to see how he was, find out if he was going to stay another night, find out visiting hours, find out what the test results/diagnosis were etc..
My elderly mum tried numerous times to get through. One time someone answered the phone and then put it down on her.
When I eventually got through (11.30 am) I explained the frustration of trying to get through to the ward and how we were worried about my father. Knowing that he would be worried too I asked the nurse to tell him that I had called and that we would be there at visiting time. Unfortunately she didn't carry out this simple request that would have put my father and us at ease. He had no idea I had called. Such a small request too. Especially after the nurse said she would pass the message on to him. Thankfully he was discharged later in the day but I was upset that this request wasn't carried out and that he didn't know I had phoned to see how he was. Upsetting for the patient and the family and it demonstrated to me that the nurse didn't care. I am sorry to have to say this but I am disappointed with the NHS. A&E was litter strewn too and not the best place for an 87 year old man to have to wait for 5 hours with a suspected minor heart attack. Simple quality processes that could be improved would not go amiss.
Postnatal care isn't too bad but if you need anything out of the norm arranged be prepared for a fight to get it.
After a pregnancy ultrasound showed that I had suffered a missed miscarriage the treatment my husband and I received from the hospital staff was fantastic.
We had our hands held from start to finish and our care couldn't have been any better in our opinion.
My pre op and medical procedure were arranged on the day of our visit to EPU so we knew exactly what was happening and when.
The staff were supportive and kind from start to finish and all introduced themselves to us by name.
My morning spent in the outpatients department was very comfortable. We were given a side room where we could have some privacy, much needed under the circumstances. It was comforting that my husband was able to stay with me.
Neither my husband nor I have ever visited the Countess of Chester Hospital in all the years that we've lived in Chester. We've learned what a great facility we have on our doorstep.
Thank you
I was given the option by my GP to have my baby at Chester or Leighton, I chose Chester due to having my other baby there and had fantastic experience on that passion. This time I seriously regretted the decision, I needed inducing early and was left for 2 days on maternity ward in non progressing labour and severe pain without any pain refielf as the labour ward was "busy" and they were giving priority to women coming in from home in labour.
My thoughts are that they are brilliant if you are having a normal pregnancy and delivery by a midwife but anything out of the norm consider going elsewhere.
It was good from start to finish.
having been dianosed with a dvt i was given no advice in this unit and left to sit for over 15 hours over two days told i could take pain relief as i needed it but took ibuprofen which ive learned since i should not have taken. no pain relief was advised or given when medication was arranged. no aftercare advise was given so as a result i have not had any sleep and been in agony and unable to walk. when we sort advise the next day from this department we were fobbed off with - go and see your gp. it took alot of pushing to get any help at all and that was given grudgingly. when asked if this was normal we were again told to go to the gp when we said i cannot get down the stairs we were told to call an ambulance!! what a complete and uttter waste of time and money. eventually we were told i shouldve been taking continuous pain relief that cannot be bought over the counter and be moving around to help the clot disperse and that sitting for two days if the totally wrong thing to do yet i was left to sit in the department for nearly 2 days and not told this. it is a total disgrace,
The only thing I would like to pick up on is the the patient call button, the time it takes to get a response, they should in my opinion asses the urgency of the call and if it can wait. As we did have on two accasions an accident with sickness and burst stoma pouch. But all in all a good stay.
Nursing Staff looked after and treated my irrational and aggressive son. They took time to talk and listen to my concerns and were aware of his problems and reacted in a very positive way. After two further visits related to the initial incident my son was recognised and dealt with appropriately. I can not praise all Staff in A & E enough especially Nurse Louise.
I had no complaint at all during my stay. Everyone was kind and the care given was the best.
The food was great - and no washing up.
