Review of Post Natal Community Care written by a patient

I do not have any complain about the care I have received in St Marys Hospital. All nursery was very helpful and attention with us. We have received all support that we was needed.

Review of Post Natal Community Care written by a patient
9th February 2016

I recently had my second child at Wythenshaw which after my first emergency section was a planned section. I was admitted two days before the section and the staff in the triage department were absolutely amazing. The staff in the delivery room were equally good; friendly, professional, informative, helpful and considerate. However the care since being transferred to the post natal ward was appalling. The staff were disinterested, unhelpful and at times bordering on rude. On both occasions after the birth the staff made quite offensive comments about men and made my partner feel very unwelcome. I received no advice, help or assistance and was pretty much ignored seeing the staff very rarely. Despite me not having breastfed before they offered no help on this at all and seemed to prefer me to bottle feed as it was less trouble for them. I couldn't wait to be discharged. Upon returning home I have found the midwives pretty much to be the same and not at all like the ones at the ante-natal clinic. The midwives who attend with the exception of one seems totally disinterested and cannot wait to get out of the door to their next patient. Again total lack of support with breastfeeding combined with criticism and threats that if my baby didn't gain weight quicker they would take her into hospital. Again I felt totally pressurised to bottle feed. Again there was total disregard for my partner when he asked if there was anything he could do to help me with the breastfeeding. As regards my health I was only allowed home after much debate and on condition my blood pressure would be closely monitored but not one midwives has bothered to check my blood pressure and they simply write in the notes 'mother doing fine' They never wanted to check my scar and would simply ask what I thought when I cant even see it. They were not even aware of my method of delivery and I had to ask and press for them to remove my C-section stitches only to be patronised and told repeatedly that they didn't come out as they were working on the basis I had a natural delivery. Once they realised they admitted they should have come out earlier. One midwife arrived and asked me why she was visiting me. I would advise anyone living in south Manchester to go to St Mary's as the service at Wythenshaw post birth is truly deplorable.
