I attend the home dialysis department at Canterbury hospital, the staff treat you more like a friend , they keep you informed and kept up to date on your treatment ,and treat you with respect , If I know any one who needs help I would strongly recommend them.to this department . mrs Pauline TUCKWELL

Marlowe Ward - Renal The actual nurses taking care of me were lovely. What can be improved - doctor to patient liaisons need to improve, they need to be more frequent and the doctor need to listen and understand what I am saying to them regarding how I'm feeling and what's hurting etc, And believe me too. A survey type thing is taken when you're first admitted asking about falls and if you need any help during your stay. It take about half an hour. Mine took a hour as the nurse was new which I don't mind but pleeeeaaaasssee get all the staff to read it. Every single staff member that came up to me kept asking me to jump out of bed or do something that i had specified in my notes I can't do. It gets really tiring having to e plain it to every single person who comes over to me and painfully e haunting for me to try and do what they're asking as they have no Luke about me. The medication write up needs to be better as they keep writing it up incorrectly as in what medicine it is, what dosage and time of day it needs to be taken. Pain medication needs to be prescribed during the stay and to carry on outside of the hospital especially post op. I wasn't prescribed any post op and I kept being told they were getting a doctor to write it up for me but it didn't happen. I ended up having to struggle through the night and most of the next day in pain. Then no pain meds were prescribed for when I left the hospital and/or no suggestion of what I should take. Nobody seemed to have a clue! And all I got was shrugged shoulders. The ward ran out of pillows whilst I was there, it took hours to get 1 pillow and the second pillow had to be stolen from another ward. I had 2 flat as a pancake pillows which resulted in a restless uncomfortable night (in pain without pain meds) and now my body pain is worse. Don't lie to me because it's what you think I want to hear. Don't tell me I'll be discharged by a certain time, or dialysed by a certain time if it's not true. I would rather full honesty up front that finding out hours later it isn't going to happen. The meals supplied need to have a low carb option for diabetics as I'm on an insulin pump and count carbs for it. All the meals suggested are packed with carbohydrates. A persons mental health needs to be considered as well as their physical health. Emotionally blackmailing me is disgusting. I suffer with anxiety and depression so yes I do what to get well again but if what is being proposed will damage my mental health then you need to think about that too. My stay in January ended up with me becoming deaf in my right ear due to the doctors and pharmacy not getting me ear drops fast enough (I was asking for 5 days!) and we had to go to the pharmacy ourselves to chase it too. Finally I was referred to ENT in Ashford (I live near Chatham) and then cantaerbury has wiped their hands clean of me. I'm STILL deaf. Someone please sort it out!

After being in hospital for a week. When I returned home the care I received from all the midwives was amazing. I had to have them daily due to my blood pressure and sons junadice. This was over Christmas and they was all so lovely. I had care from jo Keely Kira and Sarah. I wasn't discharged till 23 days after having my son was born however they didn't make it stressful it was like having a friend around. Sarah and Kira where with during my pregnancy . They are brilliant and so helpful and understanding with issues that I had. My husband felt that Sarah was really good and helped to keep him calm and reassured as he was stressed with my blood pressure going up and down. Keep it up girls your amazing.

The community post natal team were reassuring, helpful and highly professional. They listened to my concerns and provided practical soloutions to issues. After suffering some anxiety they arranged for me to see the same midwife.

Kira Town is my midwife and was also the midwife who attended me in 2015 after the birth of my first daughter. She is knowledgeable, approachable and kind. She has made up for the awful experiences and care of other midwives who have been involved in both my pregnancies.

Review of Sapphire Community Postnatal written by a patient

The care that I received from the Saphire Community Midwifes following the birth of my baby was second to none. Home visits were arranged immediately following a slightly prolonged stay in hospital, and I was in contact with the team thought my inpatient stay. My baby was then re-admitted to hospital with an infection at 8 days old and I received phone calls from the team to check on progress as well as to reassure me that on discharge I could request a visit on the day we went home if needed. Emma, Linda and Rita were a real lifeline during their visits and I felt exceptionally well cared for. Thanks you so much for making what was a stressful time a lot easier to cope with, and for the care and compassion shown at all times.

The care I was given by Rita Burton at the Willesborough Health Centre was outstanding. At all times, Rita treated me with care and compassion, listening to my concerns and responding to pre-existing medical conditions with respect and empathy. I feel incredibly lucky to have seen Rita throughout my pregnancy and I felt reassured that I was in good hands. Thank you for looking after me so well.

I can't fault my care team that looked after me during my pregnancy, my midwife was a very nice lady, as were the students that sometimes sat in on our appointments. I was always made well aware if there was to be a student with us and if I was ok for them to be there. I always got all the information I needed from each appt, and never made to feel silly for asking daft questions.
