Went to A&E by ambulance with chest pains. Upon arrival, we were left in a corridor with 3-4 other ambulance cases. Only a couple chairs and we were left looking into 3 cubicles which felt quite rude. Junior staff nurse connected to ECG and ran a quick test, then told by nurse that everything looked fine and to go to main waiting room and Dr would see us shortly. No chairs available in waiting room so ended up sitting on a windowsill (8 months pregnant) also refreshment machines out of order and no where to get a drink of water. 2 hours passed and many minor people were seen to by drs - including one person who had told us they had sprained their wrist. after 2.5hours we went to the reception desk and asked for a rough idea of waiting time. Was told that they don't have a waiting time and that we'd be seen when we are seen. I asked if this is going to be within an hour or 4 hours. Again the unhelpful woman said "we don't have waiting times". Ended up walking out and going to Calderdale where we were seen and discharged with a follow up appt within 2 hours and much nicer surroundings. Would never go to BRI again.

Was on Ward 27 at the BRI for 3 months. I have reviewed my consultant Mr Shariff elsewhere so suffice to say he and his team were excellent. The staff on Ward 27 were a revelation to me, unbelievably hard working whilst being caring and compasionate; I felt in safe hands at a very difficult time in my life.

Immediately on arrival I was informed that the surgeons were in a meeting and that the appointment might be slightly delayed, so that I was aware of the situation. I was made a drink and did not have to wait very long for the surgeon to arrive. The staff were friendly and pleasant and made me feel completely at ease.

18th June 2015 Ward Five staff displayed extremely poor (nil) communication, sit behind their desk as if in judgement. Hostile at times, destroying the effect of rare humility of others. Named Nurse, never materialises (2 times on this awful ward) 5-6 hour wait for a prescription to be filled by the Pharmacy. No thought to the needs of the patient, or those collecting them, their parking costs, or the costs in total anxiety their behaviour creates. An appalling experience.

Out-patient treatment of a small lesion - something I imagine is small and routine but the staff were friendly, polite and professional from reception on the ward and in the out-patient theatre. The procedure was carried out quickly and efficiently, I did not have to wait and the parts of the hospital I saw were clean and seemed to be well maintained. The NHS is brilliant - its our most civilised and civilising invention.

I was not sure prior to being admitted what to expect. I needn't have worried as what I saw was a hospital full of Doctors and Nurses who are passionate about caring for their patients and go the extra mile even when crazily busy and also when under difficult circumstances. Anyone who spends any time in a ward will see how hard the Doctors and Nurses work, nurses giving up days off, everyone working longer shifts all because they care. The ward I was in was ward 12, it had nurses dealing with large numbers of specialities which was extremely challenging for them and they only succeeded to cope because of their dedication and extreme hard work. A real eye opener, a first hand view of the NHS which is under extreme pressure, I saw the effect of decisions made by Managers which are not the best decisions but saw how hard, how caring and how truly amazing the medical teams are.
