Review of Cardiac Risk - Ashford,
4th April 2023
The technician who saw me was running more than 10-15 mins late but gave no apology. She did not use my name or hardly look at me, so I felt anonymous and disrespected. I tried to ask what an ECG test is and what it looks for, but she gave me an impatient very short answer and told me to look it up on the Internet. I was not aware of doing anything to upset the Technician, but she seemed tired and disinterested. She just gave me an envelope to hand to my GP, without any explanation.
Patients arrive nervous, especially when you don't know what happens in the test, what it is for or what happens next. Welcoming me with a smile, looking at me and using my name would have been a good start.
It was appropriate that I asked the technician about the test, but she acted like I was being difficult and annoying. I understand the pressures on NHS staff because I am one too, although at a different hospital, but that is no excuse for cold and unprofessional behaviour.
