I have nothing but praise for the care and attention I received from Mr Siong Seng Liau, Consultant Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgeon at Addenbrooke's hospital in Cambridge. In July 2022 I had a huge liver cyst removed by him and his team. Mr Liau inspired enormous confidence by his calm and kindly demeanor, ability to explain very clearly and in detail what the results of the MRI scan indicated, exactly what the surgery would involve, and how long I would need for recuperation. The consultation was not rushed and all my queries and anxieties were dispelled by his clear precise and succinct answers about what was about to happen to me. This was very reassuring and helped me enormously during the comparatively short wait I had between the consultation and the surgery itself. Mr Liau's work is very neat. I have almost no scars- the largest incision in my navel will soon be completely gone - It seems to have been sewn with 'invisible mending' from the inside. Thank you. A follow up CT scan in a year has been arranged by him which is also reassuring and makes me feel very cared for. During surgery the team also noted possible signs of breast cancer which they alerted me to - The signs they noted are in fact due to something completely benign, but again this observation and attention to detail made me not only feel very cared for, but was a clear indication of how competent the team is under Mr Liau. My pain has disappeared and I feel a very lucky woman to have had Mr Liau as my surgeon.

Put greater focus on meals. Several people on the ward weren’t eating or drinking because they physically couldn’t. I couldn’t hold a cup in the early days and my daughter prepared syringes of water for me which were so much easier to manage. Luckily, the man managing the food trolly was great and would butter my toast etc. Surgery definitely saved my life and for that I am of course truly thankful but a clearer discharge summary perhaps would have helped to manage the anxiety I felt when at home….

A very quick response to the finding of a large meningioma. At every visit I have been treated with compassion and excellent surgical and nursing skills. I am lucky to live where I do!

I was kept in here after a clinic visit unexpectedly due to breathing problems, after one week of test,X-rays and scans, I was advised I needed an Angiogram. Which would be done on day 7or 8 of my stay, I was told not to take my late night medication or my morning medication, then later that day, my Angiogram had been cancelled as so many patients ahead of me !!! After the shock, I was then advised I would need to wait for 4 more days before it was possible!! The following day I was advised it may not even happen on That day as now they are short of staff and it maybe the following week?? So I will have waited for 13 days at least for this to be done, I feel absolutely fine apart from shortness of breath, but am now ‘blocking’ a bed that is desperately needed by so many people on lists for treatments. The ward staff are kind, helpful and very caring, they deserve 100% for the fantastic service they offer, I just feel sorry that they get the brink of the complaints from not only me but many other patients in similar positions!

Incredible hospital from everyone who is employed there. The nurses in the Ward I was in C8 were marvellous and incredibly caring but they had a sense of humour which helps especially after surgery. They are angels. The people who served up the meals, the Ward Manager the list is endless and even the people working in the shops at Addenbrookes are all so friendly. Cannot thank everyone enough.

Highly skilled doctors and surgeons across multiple specialisms. I had to leave my elderly mother alone in a wheel chair at A&E due to Covid restrictions. I left her with a sandwich and a drink but after several hours waiting for a bed she became dehydrated and confused. I think a risk assessment to cover vulnerable and immobile individuals being left without support should be conducted. I know she was offered drinks/food from a trolley but due to the nature of her condition it was difficult for her to drink without assistance. I understand there are staff shortages but perhaps a volunteer or nurse circulating the waiting area every hour or so and checking that people are not only offered drinks but also assistance in opening them/drinking etc would be helpful?

I was admitted to Adenbrooks hospital onto one of the Neuroscience wards, I had suffered a brain bleed (subarachnoid haemorrhage) my whole experience of the hospital was nothing but admiration to every member of the hospital staff that I came into contact with from the Consultant Neurosurgeon all the way down to the lady that brought me a cup off tea each day whilst I was there. I was there as an NHS patient but I really felt as though I was being looked after as a private patient, outstanding level of care!
