I have not seen a Dr for 2/3 years, rang today and asked for a gp to call me back (to save taking an appointment) was told they don't do call backs and I should visit the walk in centre or if urgent the A&E ( funny that, government telling us not to go to A&E). I asked when the next available appointment was and was told August, I asked which year. I asked how many doctors are working at the surgery and my call was quickly ended. WHAT A DISGRACE. It seems I am a problem they wish to pass to someone else.

The reception police should do border force's job. Gp's too busy taking money off private patients while people who can't afford to go private are just swept aside. SAD TIMES

The care I receive from the surgery is always great. I have been under care of Dr Smitton previously who is absolutely lovely and so compassionate and more recently Dr Maher who again, showed compassion and support and is also really lovely. I usually like to be under the same GP if I’ve built a relationship with them but I don’t feel like I am too worried about that here as I know they are all really kind. The nurses are lovely too when I’ve had a brief visit. I can’t remember the name of the physiotherapist I saw but he gave good advice and was very knowledgeable. The receptionists are generally pleasant when I’ve spoken to them. Appointments aren’t always easy to get but that’s no fault of the surgery, I know the whole country are stretched with the same issue due to funding and resources, but they will do their very best to help where they can. Probably the best surgery I’ve been in care of.

I have no issues with the surgery itself or the GPs themselves who are always very helpful. The receptionists themselves are also helpful. The main issue is actually being able to get an appointment. This morning for example I called the number repeatedly for 40 minutes before I got beyond the busy signal. By the time I was able to speak to the receptionist, predictably all of the appointments had gone. I was offered alternatives of going to the Flowers Medical Centre or the Walk In Centre in Sheffield. I live in Rotherham - both of these options would have involved a taxi ride which I cannot afford. I understand the pressures the NHS is under but not being able to get an appointment is essentially putting people's lives at risk. I contacted the surgery as I am having issues swallowing food/choking. I would consider this an issue that needed dealing with sooner rather than later.

In the first instance, I do not need to be informed by your receptionist that you are very busy. It isn't an appropriate response to someone who is calling about a valid health issue. The receptionist did inform me that there was only two people answering the phones this morning. Again, this is irrelevant to a patient and is simply an excuse rather than a valid reason. I don't know what you could do better. It strikes me as odd that I could book an appointment for four weeks ahead but I couldn't book one for the following Monday. Same day appointments only work IF you can get through before a certain time and speak to someone. I daresay there are many people who are simply not able to get through. It isn't my job to tell GP Surgeries how they can do better; I'm not privy to information about how they are run so it isn't my place. The main crux is the appointments - something needs to be changed whether it's having more people answering the phones or being able to book appointments for the next day. At the moment it simply doesn't work - at least from a patient's viewpoint.

I’ve found it easy to get through to reception when I’ve called and the receptionists are always friendly. I’ve recently been dealing with the same doctor and not been passed to another doctor each time. I feel like the doctor genuinely cares and wants the best too.
