Very caring staff, seen and followed up efficiently. Totally engaged with me on decisions in care

Q:-What’s the difference between a doctor and god ? A:- God doesn’t think he is a doctor This is how you are made to feel at this surgery, in my 69 years of existence on this planet I can honestly say they are the worst I have ever needed to deal with on every level, I move to this surgery about 6 month ago and managed to see a Dr that I feel did not explain things properly or look into my past history and rushed through the appointment as if she had a train to catch. They don’t try to ease you off addictive medication but just refuse to issue without a call or making an appointment to discuss you need and offer an alternative, forcing you to go cold Turkey and causing stress anxiety and having to tolerate extreme pain for what medication was prescribed originally for.

Suggested improvements
Communicate with your patients Explain things in a proper manner Be sympathetic to patients needs Review patients history properly Stop talking down to patients

I told the receptionist I thought I had a urine infection and would like to speak to a doctor on the phone. I was told there was a 3 week wait to speak to someone and was given no alternative. The infection spread and became more serious.

Suggested improvements
Don’t let receptionists make clinical decisions. Don’t close phone lines for lunch every day. Employ more people to answer phones. Have some sort of online system set up.

I have only recently moved to this surgery and my first visit was to receive a flu jab. I arrived about 10 minutes before my appointment time and could get no further than the outer annex. The receptionist who was on the phone at the time, saw me arrive but did nothing to acknowledge my presence. A passing nurse opened the door and asked if she could help. I told her why I was there and saw a bottle of hand gel on the table in front of me (the dispenser outside was empty). I started to clean my hands when she (almost) shouted at me "please wait outside." The nurse apologised (kind of to us both) for letting me in. However, the receptionist gave no further instruction or indication as to how long I would be waiting and having waited 25 minutes, I could wait no longer and left to return to work.

Suggested improvements
Some training in 'people skills' wouldn't go amiss and perhaps a sign telling people what to do would help. Had a been an elderly patient attending for a flu jab, would I have been sent outside like a recalcitrant school child? Not a great first impression and possibly my last
