Always covering themselves instead of trying to help and care. “Can’t do that. I’m sorry we can’t do this for you. You’ll need to come back. No not today I’m sorry. I’m sorry we cannot etc etc etc etc etc.” By the time you are granted special permission by the reception staff to see a Doctor they try to switch it to an appointment with a nurse... if you dodge that one- and actually see a GP & attempt to make a follow up appointment with the same GP..... forget about it. And certainly no chance of more than 3 weeks in advance. And not before 8am on the day you need to see them. But then this happens to be on the day that GP is not working. Or is on annual leave. Or is doing training. But as a patient you cannot know this in advance. (Obviously) it’s a minefield of utter nonsense to get to a GP. Also if you try to call at 8am- don’t. You won’t get through until at least 8:20 at which point there are no appointments left or if there is it’s with the person who wants to video your consultation for training or something equally embarrassing. Why not go to the door at 8am upon opening time? I have. I was there at 7:45. Allowed in at 8am on the dot. Walked over to reception, waited 5 minutes to be seen- guess what? No appointments left with my GP. I understand entirely why people avoid going. The process of getting to speak to a GP is depressing and really affects a persons sense of self worth.

Suggested improvements
Make appointments for more than 3 weeks in advance Take away this ludicrous 8am appointment system Allow people to make an appointment with their own GP without attempting to persuade them otherwise Speak to patients with kindness. At the very least.

The only difficulty is, because this practice is highly sought after, there aren't enough telephone lines and people to answer them. Sometimes quite a long wait for a response or engaged for a long time. Otherwise the practice is excellent.
