Dealing with receptionists shouldn't be a battle, and you shouldn't feel apprehensive about having to approach them.
They in no way deal with situations from a best care point of view and in general the management of he practice is terrible. If you can get an appointment then they are so far behind it's almost impossible to plan anything else for your day and despite being a patient you are made to feel like a massive inconvenience for turning up. Where it not for the distinct lack of choice in my area I would not be registered here. I am a huge advocate of the NHS but this practice really lets the side down
