Over 30 years here but disappointed by steady decline of late. Unhelpful, unwelcoming reception staff and very difficult to see a doctor. Letters from muscular skeletal clinic ignored and no review of my long term illness for 7 years so asked for one and the practitioner had no idea what it was. Have since gone privately and my quality of life is so much better!

This surgery recently sent me a TEXT inviting me to an end of life seminar in a local church hall. I am in my 60s and hadn’t attended the surgery for a few years, but they obviously felt that my time should soon be up. My first grandchild had just been born and this callous text made me feel incredibly depressed. Life is difficult enough without medics, who are supposed to be helping you to live, sending out the message “Prepare for your demise”, They arranged for representatives from lots of charities to be at this seminar, along with FUNERAL DIRECTORS and SOLICITORS. They gave you a cup of tea and a fig roll and invited you to make preparations with the local undertaker, a local will-writing company/solicitor and also introduced you to lots of charitable organisations. I made a complaint to the practice manager who told me that lots of their patients were very keen to attend such a seminar - that is, keen on arranging their final days! ????? The owner of the practice offered to meet with me to discuss matters but I felt so disgusted that I declined her offer. Even a local MP, Stephen Pound, who also received the text invitation from the Argyle Surgery, commented in a speech in the Houses of Parliament on 22 October that his invitation to an “end of life seminar” had “tipped him over the edge” and that he thought that “maybe - just maybe - my time is up”. (You can see the video of his speech on Youtube.) It is quite disturbing to think that there are people suffering from depression who could easily have reacted very negatively to this invitation from their doctor. Moreover, most people just want to live and not fill their minds with thoughts of death. I have removed myself from the register at the Argyle Surgery and hope that I never bump into any of their callous morbid staff again.
