I had been having chest pain for a while and with congenital heart problems in my family asked to be referred for an ultrasound of my heart. I couldn't call at the right time and was very stressed and anxious about my results, so the receptionist helped me to get in contact with the doctor to hear the results. It wasn't urgent and it wasn't life threatening, but they understood that I was upset and wanted to get everything over with. I was able to talk to the doctor who helped me understand my situation, and even though I was upset on the phone the staff always were respectful and calm. It had been a stressful two weeks for me but they were able to help me out on a Friday afternoon and I am very thankful and appreciative of the way I was treated.

What I liked On the plus: Being telephone at home about your illness means that you can recover nicely at home and not have to worry about sitting in Staverton Roads cramped, waiting rooms with other ill people. What could be improved The reception staff should be trained with a criteria that they should be knowledgeable on to be able to say when you telephone, yes you meet the criteria of coming into the surgery. Anything else to add? As a reasonably new person to this surgery I find the appointment booking concept bizarre. You wake up; you're not very well for what ever reason "Hello, Staverton Road Surgery" "A Doctor / Nurse will call you back and decide then whether you will have an appointment" You then wait around for the Doctor to call at whatever time is convenient..... which is very strange. The quality of Doctors they have there is also patchy. DR Burch : Great, Listens and is appropriate. Dr Craig : Great, Listens, is knowledgable and appropriate. Dr Berlin: Can come across borderline rude, they can be quite touchy. They could use going on some informed consent training with the NHS. As a patient we are meant to be given full information about what the treatment involves, including the benefits and risks, whether there are reasonable alternative treatments however they do not like to explain the alternatives and do not like to involve you fully in your treatment. Another comment I will make is that they have another doctor there who is quite young between 25-30 obviously just come out of medical school and answering their mobile telephone whilst in a consultation! which is unprofessional. Secondly, he needs to learn to listen better to the patient thoroughly before coming to conclusions which don't fit the symptoms which are described.
