I am new to the St Richard’s Surgery and currently have had a broken leg for 12 days , I so can not comment on care or attitudes or skills yet of HCAs , nursing , medical or reception staff or reception manner or appointment accessibility or triage services yet , HOWEVER , I can say that I registered online successfully and was able to add a comprehensive , detailed , medical history myself which pleases me . I registered on Thursday , received notification by Friday and was fully accepted / registered by Saturday morning 8 am . This was impressive ! Therefore , I sincerely hope the above important areas of attitude / manner / accessibility in that priority order and above all care standards will be as good . I have been a nurse for 40 years so am well aware of health matters , NHS constraints and the standards of care one should be able to expect and receive in terms of Manners , Access, Care and above all compassionate , patient , kind , empathetic care as it only takes one to fail in this area for someone to feel anxiety or dissatisfaction about visiting or returning to a medical practice though they are all under pressure these days . Manner is everything and prompt , efficient customer service and good training so having been with my old practice for 37 years between two buildings , my expectations are high though they were on the whole very good there indeed , I shall miss my doctors and nurses and most reception staff there in Canterbury . Impressed so far with the speed and ease of the registration process .Thank you St Richard’s for responding so quickly . I saw my GP last year in my other practice for the first time in 5 years and clearly should have been prioritizing my own health much more more though they had spoken on the phone to me twice in that time when I had rung . Being a full time Carer for a complicated ,demanding situation here for my partner and previously my mother ,often hands on day and night and sometimes remotely , it is easy to forget one’s own care and assessment needs and let seemingly little things build up , then suffer for it , which I eventually did ,seriously so now having turned the big 60, I need a really receptive medical practice as we go forward. Carer’s health needs are often neglected though offered , not pursued . The only time I have attended this practice was accompanying someone last year , my partner , for the Dermascope Clinic and the staff were all very kind and efficient and the space excellent.
Over weekend had pain in kidney region
Called surgery got through was told have to go on triage so dr can decide if can speak over phone or see me. To be fair dr peters called at 11:58 my phone went onto answer phone she left message.
I tried to call Surgey waited 45 mins 15 mins I was 1st in cue. when I got through asked if dr peters could call on my use phone.
When she called she called on mobile again so missed call due to fault. Spoke reception they said she was told to call my he’s phone. Now she will call tomorrow. I spent whole day trying to see someone why can I not be seen this triage method is a fares and front blame covid I am a carer and still have this side pain hopefully will make contact
But please let’s have the old days all this non facing talk and diagnosis on the phone is so wrong
I'm absolutely disgusted with the way st Richards road surgery treat their patients, I really don't have one good word for this surgery
I rang the surgery for a non urgent appointment at 8:45am this morning. I had 2 issues for which I wanted advice. The receptionist efficiently took my details and told me the triage nurse would call back, which she did at about 9:30am. I was given an appointment at Deal Hospital at 11am today and was seen by 2 different health care professionals (1 for each issue) and was out of the hospital by 11:30am with 2 treatment plans. I was treated with respect by everyone involved and at no point did I feel rushed of fobbed off.
Receptionists need to take a course in customer service ...an understanding approach would be nice, and with less arrogance. Quite dismissive. They act like they are doctors and own the place ...’well, then you need to call in the morning if it’s not urgent’ (in a condiscending voice). Building is great and very clean though.
