Something is going wrong with the admin at this surgery, perhaps too much is done by automation and the reception staff, whilst pleasant, don't always appear to fully understand the systems themselves. It can be very difficult to get through on the phone when you need to speak to a person. It's very handy being able to book appointments on line but those available are always very restrictive, it's hard to believe that there aren't more available especially when you're booking weeks in advance - thankfully I can be flexible, it must be very difficult for those who can't.
Getting an appointment is so hard if it’s not an emergency.
I had to call another surgery with another receptionist who was then able to help me.
I’m not sure if their system is buggy or the staff are unaware of what there doing but getting an appointment was never so hard.
It took me over 20 calls to just get through to the receptionist for an appointment. When I finally got through they were very short on the phone. Asking if i was sure I needed seeing today. When I said yes because it had resulted in me having to take time off work, something I very rarely do because of my job, normally I carry on going to work until I physically can’t. I was met with ‘ugh 10 past 10 at milford’ then they put the phone down.
When there I saw Dr Shaun O’Connell who was excellent, explained everything to me and made sure I understood the cause of my symptoms and the medication prescribed.
Just about impossible to negotiate an appointment. I am a very infrequent visitor to the doctor, only going when absolutely necessary. I resent the indignity of being asked the nature of my complaint by a receptionist, but feel obliged to in order to get a same day appointment, and being asked if its an emergency. Clearly not, or Id call an ambulance. Scheduled appointments are literally weeks in advance. I have just been offered a phone consultation in 3 weeks time and a refusal to even estimate when i might get an appointment with the nurse practitioner! I have chosen to leave the practice and seek a higher standard of care elsewhere.
I am sorry you have a problem at the surgery. Routine appointments do generally run between 10-14 days, which is more than we would like but is not outside the norm for practices these days. Receptionists do ask for a very brief reason on same day appointments as they are asked to do this by the GP's. This is because there are occasions where the GP is not the appropriate clinician (say for travel vaccinations, immunisations ) and also it helps them be prepared for the consultation. I am sorry they were described as 'emergency' appointments to you as they are same day/urgent care and are available to anyone who feels they need to be seen that day for whatever reason. We will discuss this with the team.
Repeatedly I have tried to gain an appointment to be told that I won't be able to have one for over 16 days! I suffer from problems with my ears and skin that the surgery know about yet I resort to wasting hospital doctors time to get a simple diagnosis and prescription. We used to have no problems with this surgery when I was a child but am seriously considering moving doctors now I am an adult and can make the decision myself.
