Currently waiting for a hip replacement and still don't have a date for an assessment. I wrote a letter to my allocated doctor, doctor Gibson who incidentally I have never met which is strange considering I have had two strokes and currently suffer constant excrutiating pain. I never had a reply to my letter requesting referal to a hospital in Epsom under the 'patient choice' scheme, when I queried this, the receptionist informed me it would take upto 30 days for admin to pass my letter to the doctor. This is absolutely disgusting, what is so difficult with the receptionist simply delivering a letter to the doctors office? It has now been 6 weeks and still no reply to the letter. I get the impression patients are just a necessary nuisance to this surgery.

I was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia, but I don't feel like my GP told me enough about the condition. Obviously, they know their stuff, but they didn't really explain what this diagnosis means for me, or give me any information on how to live with it. Also, instead of looking at each complaint individually first, the blanket diagnosis was given before I was even assessed. On the NHS website, it says that a patient with back pain must ensure that the doctor thoroughly examines them; I wasn't examined at all. Although I am happy to have a diagnosis, I am not sure that enough time was spent looking into each problem. The biggest issue I have at Silver Springs is getting an appointment. I don't like the new system of telephone appointments, although I can appreciate why it is in place. However, when someone complains of severe hip pain, is there really any point in a telephone appointment? Surely an appointment face-to-face would save time, in this case. Overall, I think Silver Springs has good service, and dealt well with the recent struggle to find new GPs. I think my complaints are really with the NHS as a whole, as opposed to this specific surgery.

Response from Silver Springs Medical Practice

Thank you for your recent feedback. We appreciate that not all patients are satisfied with a telephone consultation, so just to make you aware, If you would prefer to see a doctor face to face, you can request this when the doctor telephones you. I am sorry you felt that you were not provided with adequate information on your diagnosis, if you would like to speak with a GP about this, telephone the surgery and ask for a face to face appointment. You can also pre-book appointments online, you will need to register with us before you can do this. Please visit the website or the surgery for further details. Practice Manager

On this occasion, I had an appointment for a blood pressure check with Nurse Lesley. As, yet again, in spite of increased medication, my blood pressure reading was high, I felt it wise to share with her all the problems, both physical and emotional, that I have encountered since May of this year, wondering if they may be contributing to these high readings somewhat. I found in her the most compassionate and understanding hearted person, as she gave me time to go into detail, and made me so glad that I had finally shared with a medic all the worries and frustrations that I have been trying to deal with on my own for so long. I think that, by the time I left, we had both come to an agreement that, indeed, my life experiences recently certainly have had a major impact, and I left the surgery feeling morethan little unburdened, and hopeful that the New Year may, in time, bring about some resolution. I really look forward to our next meeting, and am thankful for this lady and her wisdom and caring.
