The staff do an heroic job at this very busy practice. Getting an appointment at short notice can be difficult but this is central London!

Getting appointments is a weak point. When I try to make an appointment online, there are very few available, and usually they are several weeks away in the future. The website says the practice is open at times when it isn't -- or at least, no one picks up the phone. So, those things frustrate me.

Sometime the staff can be abrupt, but I only deal with the receptionists that I know so therefore I avoid any altercations. My Nurse Sandra and My GP Dr Pelz are the only people I see at the practice. It is sometimes difficult to get an appointment and you have to wait many of weeks to see the Dr but I have gotten used to this over the years and can plan ahead my appointments.

My greatest fear is that this practice and it's staff would fall victim to the appalling Senior Management of the National Health Service, or, suffer from interference from the unqualified 'administrators' who now infest the Health Service and who seem addicted to making changes as a demonstration of just where their cancerous hands and influence have yet again destroyed a formerly efficient setup. I have experienced this in the University College Hospital Trust involving the Royal Free Adminstrators in management of much of and sections of Diabetes Control. Most seem to agree that hospital administrators should be sent to the most distant parts of the planet, preferable where a war is taking place and that would enormously benefit the UK as a whole. I jest not. Personally I believe that Health and Medicine is far too important to be left to politicians who, after all, are just interested in scoring points, not a constructive process but a destructive one. In a previous life I was, prior to an academic career, a Dental Surgery designer and constructor, so I do have some experience of Health matters. My real feelings are hidden as they are probably illegal. I beg all who have influence to keep their hands of professionals such as those at the Ampthill Practice who really cannot be faulted or criticised. I just feel sorry for the the contempt which the so-called 'administrators' hold such excellent people. I am utterly hostile to such and they have absolutely no excuses whatsoever. This practice, in my experience of it, has the lowest standard of care I have ever received. I found the GP's unprofessional, impolite, uncaring, lacking knowledge and reluctant to make referrals. The reception staff have an attitude that is better suited to an environment that does not involve working with people. The facilities are basic. When I got to the stage where I felt anxious before an appointment I registered with another proactice. Having made quite a few errors in the handling of medical matters I lost my trust in this practice. The practice manager demonstrates a lack of interest in making improvements to service standards.
