Telephone access isn’t always great. A telephonist would be a help as reception are always busy & that would leave them to do their job.

In these days of extreme pressure on the NHS, the Doctors, Practice Nurses and reception and administrative staff at Portland Road Medical centre in Aldridge are a beacon of professionalism and care, and I cannot speak to highly of them all. The practice believes in prevention as well as cure and an annual medical and blood test for those who need it is very reassuring. On any occasion that I have had to visit the surgery, the Doctors or Practice Nurses always find time for you to discuss your symptoms and issues and involve you in the treatment plan. If you have an urgent need to visit the surgery which I have done on two occasions, a space is always found for you. I have not had to use the telephone service but would certainly consider doing so. The pre-Christmas flu injection process was an exercise in military(but very friendly) logistics with all staff taking part and congratulations to all. There is a wide variety of additional services based at the centre, dental, physiotherapy, chiropractor, pharmacy and others so it really is a one stop centre. I know from conversations at the surgery that there are a number of missed appointments without any notice whatsoever and this situation is completely unacceptable to our hard working team. After one missed appointment, any further missed appointments should be charged to the patient. Thank you everyone for a great service.

I think that the telephone consultations are an excellent idea I have used them twice and on holiday.

My son has frequent problems with his chest and has at times been hospitalised. Today we went to get checked as his chest was bad and we're hoping to avoid an admission. I was impressed with the nurse practitioner who'd looked at his notes and made herself familiar with his pattern of illness. It made me feel reassured that she knew how to address him and his particular condition. She was quick to offer a treatment plan and referred to the fact that after his previous illnesses that I knew how to manage it. Sometimes it's easy to lose confidence when you get mixed advice - this was the opposite - I came away knowing we'll be ok at home this time and trusting the care we'd got.
