University of Plymouth Well-Being Centre (4th Nov 2016) I struggled to have an appointment and didn’t feel happy with service provided by two administrative assistants who were sitting at the desk in the first floor. the main reasons of this bad customer service were the following: Firstly, they didn’t find me registered on the database, despite I already had an appointment last year, so I asked them to register again and was when they found me quickly on the database. Secondly, they asked me why I wanted an appointment questioning if it was an emergency. I thought illness was a private detail and more when there were other students around. Finally, I would like to complain about administrative assistants’ behaviour which was serious and impolite every moment, they looked like they didn’t want to work because they only tried to find solutions to problems (no registered on the database, no available appointments in this medical centre …) when I insisted. To sum up, they were not neither efficient nor had customer focus skills.

We are very sorry that you are not satisfied with the service you received at our University branch. I believe the mix up on whether you were registered or not is because there are two seperate surgeries working from the University Medical Centre; as you can imagine we have a huge intake of over 2500 patients between Sept - Oct due to the new acedemic year and often the patient is not aware which surgery they are registered with. It often takes several minutes for the NHS computer system to recognise which provider you are with. Regarding the question on whether your appointment is a emergency or not is to allow us to get you to see the correct person. we have GP's Nurse Practitioners and Nurses at the UMC; all of whom are able to treat. We ask the urgency of your need to determine if you require an appointment that day or within a next 48 hrs. It is routine for the receptionist to ask a brief description of your problem and we encourage this to ensure you are seen by the correct person within the correct time. If your complaint is regarding a private matter we ask that you just say its personal. I made a visit to this practise and was booked in with Dr.Rowland I would suggest if you are ever offered an appointment with this gp you pleasantly decline and insist on another gp After requesting someone I else I saw Dr.Riley I must say she is fantastic and a true credit to the practise So yes I would recommend this practise but I would be extremely observant of who you are offered an appointment with

My husband and I have been registered with this practice since 2007 and my children are also now registered here. They are very good at prioritising sick children with a GP phone back and usually an appointment on the same day. For my own health I find it easy to get a GP call back and I have been accommodated for urgent appointments. Using the online booking system for appointments and ordering long term medication is brilliant. If I am organsied I can book GP appointments to see the same doctor each time but usually need to do this 1-2 weeks in advance. We find the early morning appointments from 7 am useful as we can pop in for an appointment before work. Saturday flu vaccination clinics are also convenient. I have no hesitation in recommending this practice.

It's the best surgery ever. All the staff is great and extremely helpful. Considerate, kind doctors, great nurses. Fab service.

I have been so disappointed by this surgery over my last few appointments. It is extremely difficult, as a working person, to get an appointment in a reasonable length of time. They do not have late surgeries- I finish work at 6 pm! I am told none of the GPs are full time so there is little chance for recurring appointments with the same doctor. I last saw my own GP two years ago. There are always slots at the university clinic, according to the on-line system, however. You will be asked 'Is it urgent?' by reception- but how would they know, anyway? If it was urgent, I would go to A and E. So you wait 7-10 days before you can see anyone. I am moving to another surgery in Plymouth, as soon as I can find one.

Thank you for taking the time to respond on iwantgreat care, we are very sorry that you feel you have been disappointed by our appointment system. We try to work a system that allows acutely unwell patients that need to see a GP within 24 hours the opportunity to have a GP call them on the day, the GP will then assess if the patient needs to be seen that day or booked into an appointment later that week. Our receptionist do ask 'is it urgent', this is to establish if you require a GP to call you back or whether you would like to have a routine appointment. We offer early morning appointments from 7am-8am twice a week, along with a Saturday every fourth week. We currently have 3 full time GPs, along with 6 part time GPs who all work 4 or more sessions each. We also employ a full time Nurse Practitioner and a 5 session Nurse Practitioner who are able to prescribe,diagnose and refer patients. We are always open to suggestions/feedback at the surgery and will discuss your comments at our next Partnership meeting. Once again thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.
