If I have to contact the surgery for an appointment I dread it as I know I cannot make an appointment without first going through why with the receptonist then the receptionist decides whether my medical condition warrants a call from the Dr, not sure how qualified on medical conditions the receptionists are, the Dr when they do ring back diagnose over the phone and you pick a prescription up, I Even when I was passing blood in my urine a Dr decided I didn't need to see them and diagnosed incorrectly over the phone!

Response from Parkwood Surgery

Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback. We are obviously disappointed with the review and the scores you have given across all of the areas of the review. I would like to clarify a clarify some of your observations. Our receptionists are not clinically trained and do not make a decision about whether you can speak to doctor or not. They are asking the questions to try to make sure that your are booked into the most appropriate appointment. If you have a new condition and do not want to tell the receptionist about this then you are free to let them know you would rather not say and they would book you for a call back from one of our doctors. With regard to how this consultation was conducted please can you contact me so that I can review your case more fully and if needs be improve on how we handle certain situations. We moved to this surgery 2 years ago and have been very impressed. All Doctors listen to you and we have found treatment excellent. An early morning appointment before work was very helpful and, if necessary, emergency appointments have been found. My daughter's condition, which she had had for years, was finally diagnosed which has helped manage day to day living better. I have found the receptionisst very pleasant and helpful. Overall an excellent surgery

The people who work at the surgery, administrators, nurses and Doctors are all very courteous and helpful. Receptionists in particular have improved dramatically in recent years. The nurses do a brilliant job and the Doctors work very hard in increasingly pressured circumstances. However, it is such a big and a busy practice that it can be difficult to establish a confidential relationship with one's own GP. Getting a routine appointment booked a few weeks in advance seems to present them with problems which I really don't fully understand. Could not this be resolved? To plan who is on duty and when six weeks in advance does not seem unreasonable to me. I don't much like the triage system but I realise that it is necessary in order to filter out time wasters. It is very good to have repeat prescriptions managed by Boots across the road, but communication between pharmacy and surgery can go pear shaped at times. I hope I don't sound ungrateful! I really do appreciate that everyone does their best in pressured circumstances and I am grateful that the NHS still works in spite of being a political football.

I have been a patient with Parkwood Drive surgery since 1965, and have always been treated with kindness and offered good advice for many problems nearly 50 years, when the surgery was in Boxted Road. Over that period of time I have seen many doctors, and different attitudes to how to treat me, whether it was physical, or mental, the care was there. The new triage seems to be working now, and I like having the doctor phone me back, usually within an hour, to discuss whether I actually need to see a doctor. Probably on a minus side, if I speak to someone of appointments, I do feel as if they are could be more sympathetic, as I don't usually phone to waste their time. The receptionist are usually kind, and I get good advice. I sometime long for the old days, when it was a free for all to get an emergency treatment and advice, but I realise that a lot of time wasters used this system. And am pleased to say, that if you want to see a doctor to have a good chat to, you may have to wait but usually the doctor has time to talk to you, and not get you out of the door after five minutes.
