Was told I had arthritis about 8 years ago, and given a leaflet about back pain management, including exercises that I have been doing religiously every day since. It was only when I got cancer and had a CT scan that I find out the pain was due to my bones wearing out because of osteoporosis. It appears that because this is uncommon in men it was not thought to be a possibility. As a result I can no longer go on long country walks - even with treatment now it is unlikely to repair the damage that has been done. The waiting time to get an appointment is unacceptably long at this surgery. To see my own GP would normally take about 4 weeks (if he wasn't on extended leave). O.K. he may be sick, I don't know, but even his locum is on holiday! I have made several complaints about having to listen to rubbish music in the waiting room, but they have been ignored - you used to be able to switch it off (and I often got an applause from other patients when I did so) - but now the controls are out of reach and the receptionists refuse to do this. Seriously thinking about changing the practice I go to.
