After years without seeking medical advice i was called in for a health check up,following tests and explaining my health concerns my doctor informed me i have gout in my feet ,knee ,hip and hands ,,i was told by my doctor to make a phone consultation to up date my doctor before my medication runs out and to re evalulate my medication,i have not complaint about the doctor the problem starts trying to make contact with the doctor,20 plus calls on monday before the phone is picked up only to be told i must phone on friday as my doctor is not at work,40plus calls on friday to be told i can not talk to my doctor but can on the 21st of feb i explained i am nearly out of medication ,the person whom i was talking to ask me to explain if the medication was working and she could relay it to the doctor,,why would i explain my medical condition to untrained person ,,if she has time to talk with the doctor why cant i,i ask to speak to her manager who told me then have over10000 patients and need more doctors and i could seek another surgery ..that can not be the answer i wanted to hear just a quick chat with my doctor ,,if you can not provide a service for 10000 patients maybe cut down the amount of patients which you get paid for each one or get more doctors why should i get a poor service which is not free i pay for it in my taxes

Some of the receptionist staff can be incredibly rude and extremely unhelpful. From what I understand most of the better doctors and nurses have left and now it is nigh on impossible to get an appointment. If you are reading this and are considering registration with this surgery I would dismiss this practice and continue looking, because not only is it a sub par surgery but with the shortage of doctors I would assume that they wouldn't accept you anyway.

Response from Northdown Surgery

Please note we are not a sub par surgery. We received a Good rating in every category from the CQC in August 2016 and we have worked very hard this past year to do our best to move the practice forward. The Patient Participation Group has been very happy with the progress we have made. Comments regarding the "better staff have left" is inappropriate and untrue. We have some incredibly dedicated and caring professionals working at Northdown Surgery and these sort of comments just demotivate and demoralise staff who are trying their very best. We have a lack of doctors at the surgery because we have had numerous doctors retire over recent years and there is a national shortage of GPs. We are one of the few practices in Kent to be accepted as part of a scheme for doctors returning to practice and hopefully our GP numbers will increase over the next few months. Please feel free to make an appointment to see the Practice Manager so we can address your concerns directly. Practice Manager

Response from Northdown Surgery

I appreciate the difficulty in getting an appointment currnelty as we are short of doctors. However, there is no reason for anyone to be rude. Please contact the surgery and advise us to whom you spoke so we can deal with this matter. Kind Regards, Tricia Practice Manager

Response from Northdown Surgery

I am extremely sorry to hear of your problems. We offer telephone consultations every day so, at the very least, you should be able to speak with a clinician. Please ring the surgery and ask to speak with Tricia and I will take a look at the issues you have raised. Thank you Tricia Lukas Practice Manager
