When I joined the Newbury St Practice in 2013 I was fortunate enough not to need it very much and as I have very close friends who are GP’s and as I have worked with our NHS for many years I am fortunate enough to have friends, sadly my health has deteriorated drastically and so needed to after loses 2stone in a few months and had extreme exhaustion and night sweats and being sick my friends were worried I eventually got a GP appointment, my GP referred me to have tests done at the hospital, after several months I am still recovering from the lethargy and pain and night sweats and still feeling exhausted, as my friends have said why did my GP not get in contact, as I am down as a venerable adult because of my history, trying to get a appointments with the receptionists is a issue as they are not helpful at all. My GP actually said that I can go to another surgery which frankly I was shocked to hear and feel it’s a cop out … if GP’s do not want to actually listen then what are they doing ???

Really a lot, listen , train your staff to talk with respect and understanding and care and compassion, and not to be rude, and the doctors shame on you really you have got to sit up and listen we are all trying to just keep going but my health is my wealth and sadly I’m struggling desperately trying to keep going and you have not even picked up the phone the practice manager is terrible she is not listening it’s a shameful place and I am at my wits end

I've been with Newbury Street practice since I was born 62 years ago. Never have I had such appalling treatment, when trying to book an appointment. My GP.asked me by text to book a telephone consultation. That was 4 weeks ago, when I did finally get through the only response that I got from the obnoxious receptionist Was a repeated "I could only speak to her if it was a life threatening condition" I tried to explain that I had no idea why I had received the message, and was concerned, but she was still uncaring ,rude, and obnoxious. I've no doubt than when I do finally manage to speak to my GP, it will be a kind and caring conversation When Newbury Street Practice was founded it was considered to be the best practice in Wantage. I'm sure that the founding Doctor's,and, original reception staff must all be be spinning in their respective graves when they look down on the abysmal way the reception staff treat their patients.

Suggested improvements
Review reception staff and booking procedures, employ more full-tim mo hie GPs.

An abrasive, unhelpful, "what do you want me to do about it?" attitude is not what a concerned patient wants to hear after having been advised by radiology that day to contact one's GP.

Suggested improvements
Re-engage with the real world and shake Dr Heavens by the scruff of the neck before someone else does.

A few weeks ago I rang to make an appointment to see a doctor, I had a problem with my eyes, the receptionist said I needed to see the optician, I explained it wasn’t my sight but a problem around my eye. She said I needed to see an optician as they do a health check. I rang to make an appointment with the optician and they couldn’t see me for another week. When I saw the optician she said I needed to pay £25 for he health check as it’s not covered by the NHS. I am a pensioner and every penny counts. The optician advised me to bathe my eyes twice a day and buy an eye mask to heat in the microwave (£10) and use that twice a day. I was then away for a week, visiting my son Who I hadn’t seen since October, during which time the condition got worse and affected both eyes which by now were red, swollen, very sore and itchy. On my return last Friday I tried ringing the surgery and eventually got through but as it wasn’t an emergence I was asked to ring again on Monday I tried on and off most of the day to get through to the surgery without success and eventually gave up. I did manage to get through today and managed to speak to Dr Brice On the telephone who then asked me to go to the surgery so she could see my eyes. I now have some cream which will hopefully solve the problem in a few days but the whole process has been thoroughly frustrating and expensive!

Suggested improvements
To listen to the patient and not have the receptionist make a decision that caused me more suffering, or prolonged suffering And expense.

Covid crisis or not absolutely diabolicle, what more can I say! After 61 years as a patient, with Newbury Street Practice Today I telephoned in need of some help, and a face to face appointment with a GP, I was offered a telephone consultation with Dr Frances Watt, sadly the conversation did not happen, she did however leave a text message advising me to phone the Samaritans. I NEED TO SEE A DOCTOR.

Suggested improvements
GIVE ME AN APPOINTMENT TO SEE A DOCTOR!
