I have honestly never had an experience quite like the one I have had with this GP surgery. I had a receptionist shout down the phone to me telling me she was going to hang up. No morals , no manners , no empathy, no care and absolutely no respect . I know the receptionist is not a medical professional however they should basic manners and human decency after all they are working with members of the public. This receptionist was so rude and unprofessional she left me feeling so annoyed and upset . She would need to gain adequate experience in the understanding of moral ethics. Disgusted and disappointed is an understatement, coming from someone who works within the healthcare profession.

Suggested improvements
Employ staff that present with basic manners and common courtesy.

This clinic is a disgrace. Receptionists are so rude and unhelpful whenever you call. You can never get an appointment and they still aren't giving you face to face appointments over two years after the pandemic. You have to agree to a phone call appointment first which is more awkward as you have to explain your situation and symptoms over the phone while in work, which is uncomfortable and embarrassing. A face to face or phone call appointment should be an option for the patient. Filling out an application to join a new gp!

Suggested improvements
Allow face to face appointments to be an option for the patient. Even if the wait is longer. Better system and receptionists

It is very important to understand that Montalto Medical Centre is in no way responsible for the disgraceful current state and poor administration of the NHS in Northern Ireland. The entire staff from cleaners, receptionists right through to the GPs deserve credit for delivering a competent service in such trying times. I found that the current telephone system (once you actually get past the inadequate switchboard) of speaking to a receptionist, ring back by a GP for diagnosis, follow up appointment when required or referral to a Consultant if needed to work extremely well in my experiences with Montalto since the start of the pandemic. It is a much better procedure than the previous regime of turning up at the front desk to be told you couldn't get an appointment with any GP for 2 to 3 weeks.

Suggested improvements
The initial point of contact is well short of satisfactory with an antiquated telephone system that requires dozens of unsuccessful calls before you actually get placed on the queue. Surely in this technological age a switchboard capable to handling the current volume of calls should be introduced as soon as possible.

I can only speak for myself , the treatment / service I have received has been of the highest standard and the reception staff are really helpful and polite and professional. The one's that complain should maybe take a look at their attitudes and approach to the receptionist before they start ridiculing others. Thank you Dr.Devlin and Dr.McNeice for all your care .

Suggested improvements
For me personally nothing, very happy with the service from all the staff and doctor's.

This surgery is a absolute joke. There's no empathy in most of the Dr's. All they care about is keeping costs down and treating you like your a drug addict. Actually I'll rephrase that as if you were a drug addict they would give you anything that you want. The receptionists are plain rude on the phone and make you feel like that you are nothing but a nuisance to me. God help you if you disturb them and tell them that you don't wish to tell them why you don't want to disclose why you want to speak to a Dr. Also if like many people who are suffering from insomnia do not ask for temporary help getting into a routine they just tell you to download a sleep app. Maybe it's a thing that they get taught in medical school now be as rude and off to the patient so they don't disturb you again.

Suggested improvements
Where do I start. First of all get empathy brought back to the surgery. Tell everyone who answers the phone (when they do bother answering it) that they are not there to judge you or make you feel anxious evrrytime you phone up. Try and understand that us the patient are not asking for the world we are coming to you as we need your help.
