I am so very grateful to every single member of staff at the surgery for everything they do. The doctors are incredible, the nurses kind and the receptionist patient. It is difficult at times to get appointments given how many people there are now relying on the surgery given NHS cuts, but that is not the fault of the staff. My chronic health conditions have always been respected, and I have always felt that I can be honest without feeling embarrassed. Thank you to all of the people at the surgery.

Really disappointed. Received a letter from surgery re flu vaccine for over 65. Given date and times block to attend. The day prior to to that date I checked with surgery that there was sufficient vaccines available ( I’d heard rumours to the contrary) I was endured there was plenty. After queuing for considerable time a staff member joined back of queue to prevent late commers. After a further long wait people towards front of queue were told to leave as there was not enough vaccines. The queue slowly dispersed. I was next to a 90yr old man. How shocking. No excuses. They sent out letters and I checked the day before. Staff need to be given abacus for Xmas and lessons on communicating between themselves and patients.

I am very sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience with flu vaccination. This year, for the first time Health Protection Agency told us that there will be two different vaccines dividing patients into groups of under and over 65. In addition to this, we were only allowed to have vaccines in smaller batches. We had 700 vaccines delivered few weeks before and another 400 delivered just before that Saturday. Due to media alert stating that that NHS may not have enough vaccines, we had high number of patients coming in for flu jabs prior to that Saturday. However, we still had 600 vaccines left for over 65s for the Saturday, which would have been more than enough if we looked at the numbers in the previous years. Once again, due to media scare we had over 700 patients coming through the door on that Saturday and unfortunately have run out of our stock. Health Protection Agency has now sent us another 700 vaccines so please feel free to contact us to arrange an appointment for flu vaccine if it is still required. Best wishes Dr Irma Murjikneli

Response from Meridian Surgery

I am sorry to hear that you had a bad experience to book an appointment for the afternoon clinic. In our appointment system we have pre-bookable and book on the day appointments. Pre-bookable appointments open up 2 weeks in advance and get filled up quite quickly. Book on the day appointments are divided into morning and afternoon appointments. Morning appointments open up at 08:30 and afternoon appointments open up at 14:00. This is to make sure that people who suddenly become unwell are able to get an appointment with us. Some of the pre-bookable, as well as book on the day appointments are allocated for patients to book from online access. We continuously make changes to our appointment system to make it more accessible for patients, but unfortunately we struggle to meet the demand, which is a nationwide problem currently. If you want to discuss this problem further please contact our patient services manager to arrange meeting with me. Best wishes Dr Irma Murjikneli

Trying to book an appointment is incredibly difficult. On 2 occasions it has taken me 45 minutes of redialling to get through. The first time I got through they advised there were no appointments for that day and that I should call back the next. There's no information on the website about bank holiday opening hours and when I called on Monday 27th August the answer machine message said they weren't open until Wednesday 13th June! Whilst this is clearly an admin error it means I don't know when the surgery is actually next open which is extremely inconvenient. When I get an appointment the staff I have seen are friendly and the surgery is clean but that's less impactful when it's so hard to get an appointment in the first place. The online booking system is complicated and unclear too. Please make it clearer what your opening hours are on bank holidays, have more people taking calls in the morning and have some indicator of whether there are any appointments available. Please also make the online portal simpler and easier to use .

Response from Meridian Surgery

I am very sorry to hear that you had such difficulties with making an appointment. As a general rule no GP surgeries are open on bank holidays or weekends. However, we do offer once a month Saturday morning clinic with two of our GPs and a nurse. I am sorry that information about bank holiday closure was not on the website and about the error message on the answer machine. I will speak to our admin team about those. We are continuously working towards improving access and providing more appointments, more telephone lines, but this is a very difficult task. As you may be aware, this is a problem across the country, lack of GPs, lack of appointments, increasing demand and workload. Our online booking portal is managed by System One. If you let us know what sort of changes you are looking for we can pass your feedback to them. You can provide this feedback through our website or in writing. Best wishes Dr Irma Murjikneli

Today after many years of putting it off I had my smear test. I know for any woman this isn't a pleasurable experience but I was terrified after having a bad experience many years ago at a different surgery. I'm 38 and have only ever had one test as like I said I'd put it off but my appointment was with Nurse Maggie who I'd never met before. She from start to finish put me at ease was very patient with me and explained everything. She's a credit to your surgery and I thanked her for being so kind and understanding.
