Incredibly frustrated with this surgery. I am 18 weeks pregnant and had a blood test yesterday. Throughout the morning whilst I was at work, a doctor tried to call me. When I was able to phone back on my lunch break, the phone lines are closed. Getting increasingly worried about the fact they had needed to contact me so quickly, leaving voicemails to call back and the fact I’m pregnant and worried about my baby, I broke down at work and tried the “emergency” number for the practise that is given on the answer machine to use over the middle of the day. After being on hold for 15 minutes with no hope of an answer I had to start work again as I’m a teacher and had to collect the children. As soon as I could that afternoon, I phoned back and got through to a receptionist who booked me on for a phone call with another doctor as the original had gone home. I was told they would phone between 4 and 6:30. As I was really worried, I stopped by the surgery on my way home at 5:50 and was told I couldn’t wait and talk face to face instead but the doctor will DEFINATELY phone me. It is now 6:45 and still no phone call. The surgery is shut. No contact made. I will now struggle to sleep tonight with worry causing more stress for me and my baby. This is not the first time I have struggled with this surgery. Booking an appointment is impossible if you are a working person as you have to phone at half 8 or half 2 (children enter my class st half 8 and half 2 is during afternoon lessons - I am not allowed to use my phone when children are in!) if you don’t phone at these times you can’t get an appointment as they will be gone. You can’t book in advance either, you can sometimes get an appointment for 2 weeks time but they don’t seem to like giving these out (most things need seeing before 2 weeks even if not urgent!).

Response from Meridian Surgery

Thank you for your comment and we apologise that you had a frustrating experience, which also caused you worry. We believe the doctor did manage to speak with you on this day in the end. Do please ask to speak with the Patient Services Manager if this is not the case. Have you registered for our online services? Many of our patients find this a useful tool to book appointments when they are restricted with when they can call in. Please ask our reception team for a form. Yours faithfully, Meridian Surgery
