My parents are in their 80’s and my mum has dementia, my dad has been looking after her on his own for a long time. My dad has had reason to call this surgery many times for help over the past few weeks but unfortunately he never got it. Yesterday after he phoned them again they said they would send a doctor around 2pm to see mum today. A young female doctor in blue scrubs turned up at around 2pm. At this time my mum was on the phone to me ranting and raving down the phone, my dad managed to get the phone away from her and told me through his sobs what was happening. The doctor stood in the hallway looked at my mum , didn’t even speak to her or examine her. She left two tubes saying to my mum if you could do a wee sample that would be good and left!! She didn’t acknowledge the state my dad was in or make a referral to MAU (the ambulance people did that that I CALLED) . I don’t know her name or what sort of a doctor she is but I think that is pretty poor care for both of them. I will be writing to the practice manager with a complaint because that is unacceptable.

The doctor should have examined my mum and at least have made an assessment of her state of mind. She also should have looked at the wound on my mum’s leg and changed the dressing. Acknowledged that my dad was in distress and needed some support. She also should have made a referral to MAU for mum to be admitted for a medical assessment. Thankfully the ambulance people made that referral when they turned up.

The surgeon and practice doctor were brilliant throughout also the after care was exceptional, special mentions to Hillary for her help and nice natured manor.
