Honor Oak Group Practice

I have been a patient at this practice for many years, and I am very happy with the care and treatment I receive from all the clinical staff. The receptionists are really good, and I can normally get an urgent appointment if I need one by telephoning early in the morning. When I need a routine appointment I can book it in advance using the automated telephone system, or online, with a specific doctor. The text messages sent in advance of appointments to remind you are really helpful too. The extended opening hours are great too.
The only thing that can be frustrating is that there is no information when you book in for your appointment about whether the surgery is running very late, which they sometimes do.
I have always found the reception staff, nurses and doctors to be very professional, helpful and informative. I have been happy to see whoever is available. Treatment has always been good, I feel I am included in all decisions regarding my treatment and requirements have always been properly explained.
The one downside with a popular and effective clinic, unfortunately, is that it can be very difficult to get an appointment quickly. The earliest I have been able to book an appointment is with a week's notice, except where there has been a cancellation. I have never been able to get one on the day, even getting on the phone at 7am! And I have had to resort to the walk-in clinic at New Cross on occasion. I don't know how possible it would be to do this, but, perhaps if 1 doctor, per day, was dedicated to "on the day appointments" it would alleviate this problem. I know people have their preferred doctor, but if it's urgent, you'd see anyone, wouldn't you?
I am very happy with the care levels that our family receives at the surgery. We have never been disappointed, our DR is understanding , listens to our concerns and acts in a professional manner.
We are also pleased that we have the ability to book the appointment on the day, to be seen by the desired DR. Surgery is open during extended hours which is great for working people giving us flexibility.
Thank you!!!
I think this GP practice is pretty standard on most measures although Dr Bentham is excellent for child health.
My main problem with this practice is the appointments system. It is impossible to get a same day appointment. If you try and phone at 7am when they release appointments you never get through, by the time you get through all of the appointments are taken. To get a routine appointment it's standard to wait at least 3 weeks. The only way to get a same-day appointment is to physically go to the surgery and queue up at 6.45am. This is unacceptable as I have a 2 year old child (and it's usually because of my child that I need a same day appointment).
Other surgeries at least offer the option of a duty doctor phoning back the same day or the option of 48 hour appointments so I don't think the poor management around their appointments is standard or acceptable. I've noticed that the appointments system here has really deteriorated in the last few years- probably because the waiting time standard was scrapped by the current government. However other GP practices have not responded in the same way so it's a real shame that this practice has.
What l like about this surgery is it sends you a text message to remaind you of your appointment. If you need to an urgent appointment l really like the way it is handled. Getting to the surgery first time in the morning and you are sure to get an appointment to see a doctor. The receptionist are all very friendly as well as the doctors who are prepared to listen to you the patient.
I do not have any constructive suggestions as l am very happy with the day to day running of the surgery.
