Trying to speak to reception for appointment. You can be on the phon ,on speed dial repeat for two hours & still cannot get thru. Has to be a better way!
I have used this surgery for a number of years.i can understand the reason for the poor reviews, but believe this is down to the telephone system commonly used by a number of practices, rather than this particular one.
In general I have found the staff helpful and the medical staff very good.
I don't know if extra phone lines would help but I doubt if that would be practicable
I had a close look at the other reviews on this website before submitting my own opinions of the service offered by the staff of Eglinton Family Practice.
I note that, almost without exception, a low star rating and unfavourable comment is related to difficulties in making/obtaining and appointment with medical staff - a problem common to almost every practice in Scotland and certainly one I have encountered in my previous practice. I have heard that this problem is even greater south of the border. Clearly, medical services nationwide are stretched to breaking point and in no way are the medical staff themselves to blame.
The highest scores on previous reviews relate to the excellence of care provided by Eglinton Family Practice - an opinion with which I most definitely concur.
Kindness, a caring attitude to each patient can be added to medical expertise and insightful and swift diagnosis.
I have found an abundance of these qualities in the practice and especially as expressed by the Senior Partner..
The fact that, as I have heard, one of the practice nurses, Nurse Jo, has recently won an award as an "Everyday Hero" would indicate that the all- round care in this practise is of a very high standard.
In the face of the foregoing, surely any appointment is worth the wait?

I have long personal experience of some very different medical care systems (Scotland, England and abroad), I think that the medical care system offered by the Eglinton Practice compares very favourably with the others. I remember how the team struggled to provide best-possible care from shabby old portacabins, and I see them making same efforts now n their new medical centre, but with far better facilities.
In my other systems (mostly in wealthy countries), you will never get a same-day appointment, waiting times are long and no GP offers house visits. In urgent need, you have to find your own way to a suitable hospital, wait for hours and often be seen by a junior doctor. A Flying Doctor service also operates in some cities for urgent home care. While this is good to have, treatment by a doctor who does not know you is not the same as being seen by someone who either treats your whole family or who knows about you via practice notes and doctor case reviews.
I feel that those who have only experienced the Scottish system are, as I surely was, somewhat spoiled in our expectations, because it have always been that way since the launch of the NHS. Having had urgent and non-urgent medical experiences in a number of countries, the Eglinton service for me compares very well. This practice puts patient care at the forefront of its thinking, and fully deserves my highest ratings above.
