My elderly husband has a history of both cancer and cardiac surgery. He is supposed to have blood tests every three months but it seems the onus is on him to remember to book these tests. I would have expected a modern practice to have automated systems in place to alert him when the next tests are scheduled but instead he faces the double task of remembering that tests are due and then getting through on the phone to book them. I am well aware of the additional problems imposed by COVID as well as the current limitations on haematology services but this situation antedates both.

Consider how data systems can be updated to accomodate patients with recurrent teasing/recall needs

I think the front door of the surgery was awful during last year. Just forbidding 'keep away ' stuff. All patients knew that there could be no access but how about... Dear Patients and a much nicer worded notice with same info, we were having a hard time too. You have not kept any news on the website upgraded with a senior doctor leaving and most of his patients not knowing. Please pass on to the practice manager. Sadly despite the excellent staff and care at the surgery, this has acted negatively on patients' views of the practice. I have been a patient for many years and would hate for it to become us and them. We are proud of The Cross Keys!

Covid has been a huge struggle for patients and doctors. Doctors have distanced themselves physically from patients because they had to, but it left unjustifiably a feeling that the doctors do not care about their patients' welfare. Telephone conversations will never replace a doctor actually seeing a patient. All seasoned doctors can make an assessment of a patient just by their appearance which can assist diagnosis. The telephone will help doctors sort out simple problems without recourse to surgery visit, so let us hope there will be a happy combination of both in the future.

I have witnessed the care given to someone on long term medication. They have not spoken to a doctor for 5 months, medication is repeated on request. No testing for general health has taken place during the 2 years of the illness. On emailing with questions re what care they would expect to be giving - a call was received- but I would hope a GP would be proactive rather than reactive and that systems were in place within the management of the practice to check prescribed medication was doing its job.

Suggested improvements
Regular contact / blood tests / blood pressure monitoring for all patients receiving regular medication.

Excellent experience with Dr Burkimsher this morning. What an excellent way to conduct medicine. Great use of phone, for high quality consultation led to likely diagnosis by photo and RX immediately available all by 10am! Brilliant! Thanks!
