GP lack empathy and came across a little patronising.

I think GP should see you in person and display empathy for patients.

I appreciate that in this climate that it is extremely difficult to get an appointment. The receptionist, who was wrapped up in a massive scarf and (whom was straight away on the defensive.).. I was in a lot of pain and appreciated the fact that her job was difficult...I approached her in a way so not to antagonise her.. but to no avail... .. She was harsh ..not to say the least....I know that these ladies are trained to ask some pertinent questions but surely the manner in which they are asked would make the patient not feel that they are actually causing an annoyance to any existing back log... The first thing she said to me (and with no empathy )was... well your doctor is extremely busy and there will be a reeeeeeally long wait. ie.. don’t waste our time if it is not life threatening. Unperturbed... I politely insisted on seeing the doctor whom I first saw over 24 years ago and in whom I have total trust in. Should I have been a more vulnerable patient, then this receptionist would have won !! Doctor Millen on the other hand , who has unrelentless waves of patients and was way behind in her daily diary, was professional in every way. She did not appear flustered nor hurried in her appointment. Although way behind in her schedule, she took time to listen and emphasise. SHE IS a CREDIT TO HER PROFESSION! The receptionist however needs to be reviewed as ... not to be too dramatic, should a more vulnerable patient request help and faced with a receptionist who is abrupt even before being faced with objections, would walk away and be left feeling vulnerable and a nuisance! And I am pretty sure that this is not the the way you want the image of the Cowplain Practice to be portrayed throughout the local area. I will understand that you have taken on further patients from the local area, but that’s not the patients fault. I have already had 7 days off work and I had no improvement and actually broke down at work and was sent to my doctors. Dr Millen was totally professional and listened to my concerns but had I portrayed more vulnerability than I had actually felt as regards to the receptionist then things could have turned out a whole lot differently!

My entire 4 year experience with them has been absolutely terrible. I suffer from migraines and anxiety and all they do is stress me out and cause more migraines! I made a telephone appointment today for 8.30... By 9 I called them to ask why I haven't been contacted, my appointment had been pushed back without anyone letting me know. While on the phone I missed the doctors call of course. I rang back less than one minute later to say this and they told me I'd be called by 10.30. Now I can't make or accept any other calls ALL MORNING. Oh also I made it via phone because it takes 3 weeks to make an appointment with my doctor and at the walk in I've genuinely waited for 2+ hours to be seen before. Absolutely shocking. Do yourself a favour and join vine medical group, this place is terrible and the reception staff just make you wanna cry.

I believe this is how a G.P. practice should be run. I love the fact that I can walk in on the day that my G.P. is on duty and I can see her that day . I don't mind how long I have to wait because I know that I will see her that day and not have to wait three weeks for an appointment which seems common practice in other practices. The staff are all very pleasant and helpful and I have nothing but praise for the care I have received.
