After coming home from France very unwell I attended the surgery on Monday and saw Dr Melhuish who took blood samples. The next day I was called back to the surgery by Dr Bruce as the blood results were very bad. He phoned Torbay Hospital and I was admitted straightaway. The hospital, after many more tests, discovered I had contracted Legionnaires Disease and the appropriate treatment was started. Before and after my treatment I would like to thank Bishopsteignton Surgery both the doctors and Jill, the Receptionist. I could not have been treated better.

The Receptionist, Jill, could not have been more helpful! She really went above and beyond the call of duty to help me get emergency medication for a relative within a couple of hours!

I find the Receptionist at this practice to be very rude & abrupt; when I was waiting in the surgery I realised her impatience - she was too busy organising her Fathers Birthday Party on her mobile phone to answer the telephone. The doctor I saw was lovely, he was a Locum, he explained everything to me in detail & I felt heard, it's just a shame it takes a lot to actually get to see the doctor with all the telephone appointment faff. I felt bad he had to come out to collect me from the waiting room for my appointment, the Receptionist was too "busy".

Response from Bishopsteignton Surgery

I am very sorry that you were dissatisfied with the performance of our Receptionist and I will take this up with her. The doctor you saw was not a Locum but is, in fact, a relatively new GP employed by this Practice (Dr Kevin Bruce) who works at Bishopsteignton Surgery on Tuesday and Friday mornings. I am so pleased with your comments about him. I am sorry that you do not approve of our "Dr First" system but it does ensure telephone contact with a GP with one call, followed by a face-to-face appointment if necessary.

I had my annual heart check results review with Nurse Melony Dyke on 21/1/15,it was thorough and informative and she conducted it in a very pleasant and reassuring manner. The other nurse who did the blood samples the previous week was also very quick and efficient.
