I am at a loss to understand why the surgery is still not seeing people F2F as most surgery’s and primary care are now seeing patients.
As a nurse myself and work with receptionists regularly I feel the reception is given too much “power” to decide what people need with little medical knowledge to back up decisions that are made. I was told to make an appointment for blood test 2 week wait, decided to get my college to do it,results next day but unable to discuss this as receptionist told me although I need to have an appointment it would be routine,I asked the results but she can’t discuss that ,GP appointment is telephone in 3 weeks ,god help you if you are really unwell or having long term medical issues
Have been trying to contact the surgery in preparation for a hip replacement - it is a soul destroying experience.
Every telephone call is prefaced by a 4 minute long lecture, 9 or 10 options then a wait of anything between 25 -40 minutes.
Results in my online record? N/A, N/A, N/A.
If this is the NHS way of operating 'digital first' the future doesn't look too good.
We were promised new things under new management - we have the same failings: long waits, poor access and a bunker mentality.....except we don't even get to see people face to face now.
I never ever go to the doctors unfortunately I had too. The receptionist that I spoke to made me feel like I should know what I was doing and I felt like she told me off for coming through to her. I felt so belittled afterwards
On the 10th August I spoke to the reception concerning a lump on my forearm which needed to be checked. The receptionist asked me to forward a photo via a link which she gave me. I duly did so. Within a short time the doctor had 'phoned me to say that the lump needed to be seen at hospital, removed, and tested. He said he would arrange an appointment. Within two days the East Kent & Canterbury Hospital Dermatology Department 'phoned me with an appointment for today...21st August. This morning I was seen and the doctor immediately performed the excision. Not only were they marvelously efficient but we managed to have a laugh throughout the procedure. Whatever the result , I wish to thank them and Birchington Medical Centre for the speedy and professional way this has been dealt with. Thank you all - you have made an old man very happy!
Receptionist - rude, poor customer service, unsympathetic! Terrible experience.
