Cannot speak to doctor or nurse, receptionist relaying what the doctor says, not receptionist fault the system stinks

I have been a patient of the Birbeck Group since it was based in Duke Street, Penrith and Dr Barr Snr was the lead practitioner. It is an excellent surgery, (for 43 years to be precise), I have always found that whichever Doctors I have visited have been professional, friendly, genuinely supportive and I have always received the best care from them. Where necessary I have been referred to specialists without delay. I have seen Doctors come, leave and retire in my many years as a patient there, the care given in all those years has never changed, it is still as good now, (often better), as it was 43 years ago. I would recommend the Birbeck Group without hesitation.

The surgery is complicated and bureaucratic. Every time I ring up I am told I have rung at the wrong time or pressed the wrong button so am speaking to the wrong service. As a new patient, there has been no information regarding how to navigate the complicated service offered and no helpful advice when asking for help. The staff are in general rushed and rude. Even when I got to see a dr their manner is terse and uncaring. One dr even stated “I cannot understand why I have so many patients booked” in reference to my long wait. Why not just apologise? There are never any appointments and I have taken to going back to my old drs and signing a temporary residence form each time. Although they are an hours drive away it is much easier to access. I wish I had never changed and just put my mums address when we moved house.

I have tried 3 times to get an appointment for antibiotics which I need to take with me while traveling ...each time I’ve hung around trying to get an appointment over the phone, only to be told it’s not an emergency or come back nearer the time today I couldn’t get an appointment due to a shortage of doctors I’m going on holiday after the weekend so time is getting short I’m not amused to say the least.the booking system is a shambles
