My wife has just finished a series of appointments with the practice nurses regarding dressings for burns to her back. The service/treatment she received was excellent from reception and nursing staff, and they can be proud of their work.

Always a problem to get an appointment. Today I Rang from 8am and finally got through at 9.44, constantly engaged until 9.44 only to be told there’s no appointments and to go to Deal hospital. If I wanted to go to Deal hospital I would have phoned the hospital not the surgery, surely this is just adding more demand onto Deal hospital, perhaps the surgery should deal with their capacity issues rather than pass patients onto Deal hospital

Since arriving in Walmer a year ago, my wife and I have been impressed with the friendliness of all the staff at the Balmoral Surgery - admin and medical - and their desire to provide best advice and service, which to date has been first class.

Both my wife and I have found Dr Sparrow to be the ultimate professional who gets straight to the nub of the problem and gives his diagnosis, prognosis and advice in a clear and caring way.Such is his patient load and popularity that it is often hard to get an appointment.

I appreciate it is difficult to obtain an appointment with a specific doctor, but when 'two weeks or more' turns out to be a month, that is less acceptable; the appointments secretary then, grudgingly, told me the doctor would be taking on holiday. Why on earth not say that in the first place? My second issue concerns my allocated doctor. Without my knowledge, or indeed consent, I discovered I had been allocated to another doctor at the practice - a doctor I'd never met, nor indeed knew that she was a woman. Given recent evidence stressing the important and beneficial effect of having a dedicated doctor, I found it distressing that I had been arbitrarily switched to an unknown doctor. The receptionist assured me that 'it didn't matter', that I could always (with luck!- my words) see my 'own' doctor, but that I am afraid is not the point.
