As it is very hard to make an appointment with the surgery, I am trying to apply for online appointments although it is proofing to be hard work. I have left all the paperwork requested at the surgery over 3 weeks against now after having waited 15 minutes for the staff to try and register me and then telling me that the system is not working. They asked me to come back the week after the week after to pick up the letter with the registration code because it cannot be sent in the post due to privacy reasons. I did and they told me that the system was still not working and found my paperwork left around on some shelves. They told me they would call me when the registration is done. After over 3 weeks I am still waiting, trying to call and getting no answers and with no email address on the website for writing to the surgery.

If you need to see a doctor on the day, it is difficult to get an appointment. You get told to ring tomorrow.

It gets harder to make an appointment with a specific GP, but it is worth the effort in order to build up a rapport. I have been seeing Dr Christie for quite a few years now and I feel she knows me quite well and is in tune with my eccentricities and health needs. I hope I am not too much of a troublemaker - does the NHS have a similar questionnaire for doctors to complete regarding their patients?

It has been helpful to build up a rapport with one GP, but the system makes it very difficult to make an appointment at a convenient date/time. For urgent matters the only solution seems to be to arrive at the gate soon after 8am. It is hopeless to try to get through on the phone, as it is constantly engaged first thing and by the time it is free all the appointments for the day have gone. Sometimes there is just no-one available. I have received excellent care from everyone I have encountered. It would be ideal if one could turn up for blood tests without a prebooked appointment, as at QMH - especially if fasting. The removal of magazines (and toys) in the waiting room is a step too far! Other surgeries still seem to have them.
