I think we all know that vitamin C or 'Ascorbic Acid' is used to bolster our immune system against infection and illness. It is every hard to exceed the suggested daily dose as it is the only Vitamin that is not stored in the human body. It is soon passed out through the urine after ingestion, therefore regular doses (eg. 1mg) should be taken as and when required. It is found naturally in many fresh vegetables and fruit and gives a fresh, zingy taste to them, if in high concentrations. It is usually found in efferfescent tablet form, but can sometimes be purchased in powder form ( though this has been discontinued sadly by most stores, because of it's use connected with illegal drug misuse) The effect of ingesting vitamin C is a very beneficial one as it mainly bolsters up our immune system to fight against infection and illness. Lack of this vitamin in the body can result in several ailments (eg. Scurvy suffered by mariners who are deprived of fresh fruit and vegetables in the navy over 100 years ago) The daily recommended amount is easily found in our diets if we eat healthily and simply, though sometimes a 'booster amount' can be very helpful if suffering from colds/flu etc. NB. If on the first signs of a cold or flu one should take an additional dose of vitamin C, the said illness often does not develop, but I stress one should take it as soon as the first symptoms show. (ie the first night or day). I hope this has been helpful? Hanna-Louise Waite.

A blast of high strength fizzy vitamin C is great when you feel a cold coming on. In my experience it stops a cold in its tracks. You can't over do it though or you'll feel a bit sick.
