It is important to take Omeprazole regularly. It turned my life around for me as I had spent years with the most awful heartburn that would make me gag on the acid. I had been chewing Rennies etc and also taking Gaviscon and nothing was making a jot of difference anymore. Finally my GP took notice of me when I said I couldn't go on like it anymore. I was sent for the camera down the throat which identified that I had Chronic Gastritis and also the Heliobacter Pylorri bug so treatment was started right away and then when that was completed I was put onto Omeprazole which I took for a few years until I felt I was getting problems again. I now take Esomaprazole which has settled it down again.

I am taking omeprazole following the removal of my gall bladder, as I am also taking anti inflammatory pain relief. I have had no side effects and feel that the omeprazole is doing its job.

Profile

Omeprazole is used to treat certain stomach and esophagus problems (such as acid reflux, ulcers). It works by decreasing the amount of acid your stomach makes. It relieves symptoms such as heartburn, difficulty swallowing, and persistent cough. This medication helps heal acid damage to the stomach and esophagus, helps prevent ulcers, and may help prevent cancer of the esophagus. Omeprazole belongs to a class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).
