Initially the Lansoprazole brand dispensed was Teva - 15mg; it was a white capsule and did its job very well. Recently, I was given another brand - Laboratorios Liconsa - also 15mg; this is bright yellow and is coloured with the AZO dye E104 (Quinoline Yellow). This food dye is aleady banned for use in food products in some countries (Australia, Japan, Norway and the United States), and may be a contributor to ADHD. As a past sufferer of ADHD, I now exclude all suspect AZO dyes (such as E102, E110, E104) from my diet. The inclusion of E104 in this medication may be implicated in the reported side effect of restlessness for some patients. I should like to continue taking the white brand of capsule, but the pharmacist was singularly unsympathetic and unhelpful when I explained the situation. He has told me I must now get a prescription from my GP specifying the brand of Lansoprazole. This I will now to try to do. However I am disappointed to find a medication unnecessarily containing a suspect food dye - hence I can only give 1 star for side effects.
