I HAVE TO HAVE HYDROXOCOBALAMIN TO TREAT PERNICIOUS ANAEMIA.IT WORKS, BUT I NEED IT MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY THAN ONCE EVERY THREE MONTHS, SO I HAVE TO GO TO GREAT TROUBLE TO GET IT FROM ABROAD.AND INJECT MYSELF. THE MEDICAL PROESSION JUST DOES NOT HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE TO TREAT PERNICIOUS ANAEMIA(IS THIS BECAUSE THE PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY HAS NO INTEREST IN P.A. AS IT IS TREATED WITH A NATURAL PRODUCT WHICH CANNOT BE PATENTED.THIS MEANS THEY CANNOT MAKE BIG PROFITS FROM IT) IF YOU HAVE PERNICIOUS ANAEMIA, IT IS UNLIKELY THAT YOU CAN ABSORB B12 IN TABLETS, SKIN PATCHES ETC. YOU WILL NEED HYDROXOCOBALAMIN OR METHYLCOBALAMIN

I have given effectiveness and ease of use as 3 as I struggle with a constant battle with my GP who allows me one jab every 8 weeks, my symptoms come back usually within 1-2 weeks, more frequent injections would enable me to function normally, I suffer from Pernicious Aneamia and for me the Hydroxocobalamin is wonderful, I just wish GP's would listen to us and treat our symptoms with this extremely good vitamin, which is water soluble, no side effects- no risks.

MY REVIEW REFLECTS THE FREQUENCY OF THE MEDICATION. IT IS GIVEN USUALLY ONCE EVERY 2 TO 3 MONTHS, THIS REALLY IS NOT ENOUGH. ALL TOO OFTEN THE SYMPTOMS RETURN IN A MATTER OF DAYS, AND CAN BE TERRIFYING WHEN YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HAPPENING TO YOUR BODY. MANY PEOPLE RESORT TO BUYING THEIR OWN MEDS AND SELF INJECTING. PLEASE GPS LISTEN, WE DO NOT WANT TO CHALLENGE YOUR ABILITY, JUST FOR OUR PROFESSIONAL TO HEAR AND RESPOND WITH UNDERSTANDING.

This was life saving treatment for my relative. The big problem was the doctors' denial and failure to treat urgently, resulting in permanent neurological damage. The scandal is that it is still a constant battle to obtain more frequent injections. When needed.

I marked effectiveness and ease of use as three stars only and would like to clarify: whilst the medicine itself is effective for patients with pernicious anaemia, the shots tend to be given once every three months by most surgeries. I have been told that this is because the shot is supposed to last that long. It does not. After three weeks/one month at most, symptoms recur. Therefore, whilst it is good at treating my condition, I think that guidelines(in the UK and Ireland) should be changed to suit patients needs.

Profile

Hydroxocobalamin is a man-made injectable form of vitamin B12 used to treat low levels (deficiency) of this vitamin. Vitamin B12 helps your body use fat and carbohydrates for energy and make new protein. It is also important for normal blood, cells, and nerves. Most people get enough vitamin B12 in their diet, but a deficiency may occur in certain health conditions (e.g., poor nutrition, stomach/intestinal problems, infection, cancer).
