Amitriptyline

I had severe ear pain after having a operation on my ear and I was given several different types of pain killer tablets like Tramodol nothing eased the pain. I was in agony and ended up in A & E a few times. I changed hospitals and specialist and they put me on Amitriptyline . I had to start on a small dose and increase it over a few days until the dose was masking the pain . I was on it for a few months then I decreased it gradually. I had no side effects. I was worried as a few people said it could be addictive but I had no problems coming off it completely . I have Irratable Bowel Syndrome and personally it was the best my tummy had been whilst I was on these tablets. My only downside was whilst on them I was always feeling hungry and I did put on some weight but it could have been a coincidence .
I found that the Amitriptyline did exactly what it was prescribed for, it helped me to relax better at night and helped me get a better nights sleep.
Taken for nerve damage following a failed spinal operation (screw placed through nerve).
I took Prozac and had terrible side effects. This is a much older anti-depressant, but for me it works extremely well
I was prescribed this to ease nerve pain and to help me sleep when I had Bells Palsy. It was very effective. Side effects I experienced were drowsiness and dry mouth.
