I have taken Allopurinol (100 mg - once a day) for Gout for some time. At first it seemed to have little useful effect, whereas Colchicine tablets (500 microgram) had been effective. However, more recently I have found that the Allopurinol tablets have been effective, and I have had little recent pain.

If you get gout attacks you know how painful they are. Since I started taking allopurinol I've not had a single attack. I've also not noticed any measurable side effects although perhaps some slight and occasional knee joint pain. Nothing I can't manage and if I exercised I feel I'd have no joint pain at all. Keeping a sensible weight and diet are essential to controlling this condition.
