As someone who first had gout in my forties - a very severe first attack followed at irregular intervals - I had never heard of Allopurinol until years later when a friend told me how successful it had been for him. My then French doctor agreed I could have it prescribed and, on my experience, I would suggest any sufferers should at least try it. I haven't had gout again for 10 years!

I understood why I was taking Allopurinol but not exactly how it works! It is simple to take and I have had no issues with it. I didn't bother to take it for a couple of months and suffered a bad gout attack over Christmas and then took it during the attack, which exacerbated the symptoms - my mistake.
