What a lovely consultant, he made me feel at ease and explained what and why I needed the knee replacement. I felt that any time I could contact him if I had a problem, having said that I am 7 weeks on from my replacement, and apart from some expected pain I have followed instruction and I am walking with very little aid. I have just had my first outpatient appointment where the encouragement from him was very positive he wrote a letter to me telling me how delighted he was , I don't have to see him for 6 months.

Philip listened hard, investigated thoroughly and offered sound and appropriate advice. I’m so pleased I took his recommendations. My life has transitioned back to normal in a surprisingly short term as a result of the TKR. The only feedback other than profound appreciation is in respect of the care App ..a great idea… just needs reduced options ..and pain Mgt in the first 3 days following the operation. As I was discharged the day after the operation and without appropriate pain relief, I was able to contact Philip and brilliantly he was able to prescribe. In regards to the Physio…only the hydro-therapy was invaluable.

Initial consultation and examination were extremely thorough, and everything was explained clearly and in depth. Professor Chapman-Sheath is always cheerful and positive which gives confidence. Procedure went very well and although I was only at the Nuffield for 3 days the aftercare was very good. The physiotherapy was exemplary and really helped me. Six weeks on I have had my first consultation post op and I feel I am well on the way to recovery. I think the key is a good surgeon who I feel I was very lucky to find and sticking to the exercises regularly. I’m looking forward to having the other knee done! Thank you to all who looked after me.

The consultation was easy and an appointment for the prosedure was made within a week. My room at the Nuffield was good and the staff looked after me well. I had the injection in the back and was kinda awake during the op. The pysio was started at the Nuffield but travelling was difficult as I live on the Isle of Wight. I found the leaflet/photo copy for the exercises they gave you at the hospital a bit poor. I also tried the over the internet version of the exercises. (Still in partial lockdown I think) Your also not really in the zone for listening but that said overall it all went well. I used PysioCare in Ryde (Sam Pryor) which was more relaxed. The follow up with the professor went well and after I would say 3 months I was very good and back to my old self which was fantastic. The hard bits. The procedure takes it out of you and the lounging about afterwards. But you soon recover. Sleeping is a big problem I found sleeping on my back the best way and eventually managed it, but you dont sleep for long periods a few hours at a time. I have now had my other knee replaced by the professor. I cant yet dance the Fandango but soon. So far I have my old life back. On holiday recently I was walking an average of 8000 steps a day. My new knees aren't quite as good as my real knees were ,I am not sure about running but the pain has gone and my general self is fantastic.

Thank you very much for leaving us this really valuable feedback which I will pass on to the physiotherapy sept at the private hospital to ensure a better ‘handout’ for future patients I am glad that you are doing well following surgery and you are spot on with your summary of the magnitude of surgery and the relatively long time to ‘new normal’ function Your insights will be very useful to other patients considering similar surgery
