Professor Lloyd removed my gallbladder on 13th October 2022, as I had 3 large gallstones in it. During my first consultation, he explained the procedure clearly, using a diagram, so I knew exactly what to expect. He listened to my concerns and was able to reassure me. The procedure went as planned and I left hospital the following morning. The recovery went well and I had no side effects. My follow up consultation was on 7th Nov, where I was told everything had gone well and I was discharged. Professor Lloyd was a perfect gentleman and did an amazing job. I would definitely recommend him.

How do you thank someone for literally saving your life? After doing a bit of research and finding that at my age I would be ‘statistically’ DEAD before progressing to the front of the NHS queue for inguinal hernia repair, I began to ask other medical professionals who were treating me if they knew of an experienced, specialist physician who would accept private referrals. My ophthalmologist strongly recommended I contact Professor Lloyd as soon as possible, since my hernia was growing and becoming a bit painful. I immediately booked a consultation at Spire Leicester, and soon discovered how a medical ‘experience’ can be transformed from deeply fearful to strongly encouraging. From the very beginning, the staff at Spire Leicester was welcoming and supportive, easing my worries and assuring me that I was now in the right hands. The Professor himself was kindly, accurate and made sure I understood exactly what the entire experience would entail: pre-op tests, admission, pre-op visit from Professor Lloyd, the operation steps, post-op recovery, post-op visit from the Professor and release from the hospital. He also offered ‘tips’ about what to do during the ‘full recovery period’ of six to eight weeks – both what to do, and what to avoid. In all ways, he – and the entire Spire Team – showed a keen interest in my concerns and made all things understandable and logical to me. In addition, and perhaps more importantly, Professor Lloyd and the staff – including his wonderful Secretary Lynne – always listened, were positive about my future, and took the time to be cordial and understanding. All I would add in closing is that there are NOT ENOUGH ‘stars’ to give in this statement. I will always remain grateful to all involved for my superb treatment!

Finally after 4 failed procedures with the NHS I decided to go private and Professor Lloyd was recommended highly. I had a hernia repair performed in Dec 2021 and as a result developed a large seroma over the site of the repair. The NHS stance was I didn't have an infection and the seroma was not life threatening so they were reluctant to treat. However it was at the front of my abdomen and caused extreme discomfort affecting my work and daily life. I battled for 9 months to get treatment and each procedure didn't work resulting in the seroma returning. So I came to see Prof Lloyd and the initial consultation was so positive. He explained clearly what surgery was required, recovery time, drew diagrams so I knew exactly what to expect. He guaranteed there would be a 1% chance of it ever returning. I booked the surgery September 29th....Prof Lloyd checked in before and after surgery to make sure everything was ok and I had a follow up 2 weeks later which he was very happy with the results True to his word 4 weeks post surgery I am free of the seroma, healed so well and can now get on with my life. I work in a treatment clinic which specialises in sports rehab. The therapists recommend Professor Lloyd and I was slightly reluctant at first to book and appointment being I am an old fat bird not a trim sports person but really it doesn't matter age, size, health he treats everyone with utmost respect and excellent care....so thank you Prof Lloyd and the staff at the Spire for looking after me so well.

After being told by 2 Consultants on the NHS and several Dr's through GP/111 visits we have almost given up on the hope of a hernia repair for my father. He had a huge right inguinal hernia, which he had lived with for over 30 years. In the last year, the hernia had grown significantly to the point where in the last few months, my father was unable to go for walks or carry out his normal daily routine due to the symptomatic nature of hernia progression. The last visit to a Dr on a 111 Hub visit where we were told that the hernia would continue to progress until sepsis and breakage...we decided enough was enough. I spent days reading published papers on hernia repairs of this nature, and it was clear the risk of such an big repair operation was largely reduced if it was pre-planned with the correctly skilled Surgeon carrying out procedure. So off I went to seek a Specialist who could help my father. I called many Hernia specialist centers in the UK, until a relative advised me to speak to Spire as they had heard of complicated hernia repairs being carried out there. Upon speaking with Spire, I was advised that given our journey we would be best to seek the help of Professor Lloyd. So we did! From the point of meeting with Professor Lloyd in Consultation, to day of procedure, release and outpatient visit, we have honestly had the best care. His can-do attitude is so refreshing and he has gifted my father with time to live his life normally once again. The procedure was successful and recovery has gone well. Professor Lloyd is not only very knowledgeable in what he does, and he really does undertake the oath of care in from compassion to positive action. He honestly has been our hero and we would highly recommend anyone who is any situation where someone said they can't, to go see Professor Lloyd! I would also like to give our kindest acknowledgment to the staff at Spire; where everyone matters, patient or a friend/family they are very kind and caring to all. Thank you team Spire, and thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Professor Lloyd,

Following contrary advice from two NHS consultants I needed advice and counsel from a third party. I selected Professor David Lloyd after much research, as his portfolio stood out from all the others I had seen. I made an appointment to see him regarding my hernia and must say that he was very efficient in his consultation with me and also explained to me that I would need additional consultation from a member of his team and anaesthetist Dr Bouch. Dr Bouch explained in clear and concise details what my challenge was something that had not been answered over 5 plus years. Professor Lloyd was therefore able to clearly explain a good plan of management which enabled me to feel confident with the outcome. The care and and understanding by ALL staff at the Spire hospital was second to none. If you have an issue which may need sound advice then I can wholeheartedly recommend Professor David Lloyd and his team to provide a sound and swift plan to manage your condition with prompt and plain communication. My post operation recovery was swift, painless and full. Professor THANK YOU and your team for your care and professionalism. John Ryan
