Share review of Professor Alastair Sutcliffe
I was a patient under Dr. Sutcliffe’s care at the paediatric ward in UCLH over a decade ago. I’m now a a doctor myself, and I often reflect on the impact his kindness and compassion had on me. He was always so attentive, caring, and reassuring, making it his mission to listen to my concerns and to reassure my family and I. As an adolescent (who might easily feel disparaged), it meant a lot to feel truly heard and to be treated with remarkable empathy and skill. He always explained everything with clarity and kindness, never dismissing a single concern. I remember thinking to myself, “this is how I’d like to make someone feel in the future, this is how I’d like to talk to patients, this is the kind of impression I want to leave”. I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Sutcliffe and the registrars under his guidance; they not only solidified my desire to pursue medicine but also served as role models who encapsulated the true essence of what it means to be a physician. I pray that I’m able to leave a similar impression on my future patients.
