Working with Prof Sutcliffe was a pivotal moment for us, when seeking a diagnosis for my son’s condition. He was kind, committed and provided some great advice along the way. He also never gave up.

I met professor Sutcliffe, long time ago at UCLH. A very professional and profound doctor. I have not met anyone like him before. The extreme caring nature willing to give extra attention and look through many different routes to help and support his patients. Doctor always gave time and listened with extra care. My son Jinan growing up with many difficulties. Myself not understanding or knowing what or why he was constantly becoming unwell. Eventually with the support of doctor Sutcliffe. We have now reached a safe destination an our son has grown to be a bright young man achieving high gaols. Thanks to this superb doctor we once met who took our hands until son was in safer health. I couldn’t be more grateful enough for the fact that my son is safe and sound all grown chasing his dreams due to the true support received by doctor Sutcliffe. Wishing good health and every success for the best doctor I have known.

I was a patient under Dr. Sutcliffe’s care at the paediatric ward in UCLH over a decade ago. I’m now a a doctor myself, and I often reflect on the impact his kindness and compassion had on me. He was always so attentive, caring, and reassuring, making it his mission to listen to my concerns and to reassure my family and I. As an adolescent (who might easily feel disparaged), it meant a lot to feel truly heard and to be treated with remarkable empathy and skill. He always explained everything with clarity and kindness, never dismissing a single concern. I remember thinking to myself, “this is how I’d like to make someone feel in the future, this is how I’d like to talk to patients, this is the kind of impression I want to leave”. I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Sutcliffe and the registrars under his guidance; they not only solidified my desire to pursue medicine but also served as role models who encapsulated the true essence of what it means to be a physician. I pray that I’m able to leave a similar impression on my future patients.

I would highly recommend Professor Sutcliffe. I know Prof both as a colleague and he has reviewed my daughter. As a parent he was very compassionate and informative. He made my daughter feel at ease and he really reassured me as a worried parent. He is a breath of fresh air and has always been very helpful, proactive and approachable. As a colleague I have witnessed Prof speak with parents and receiving patients into his clinic and his compassion and commitment to providing excellent care to his patients was obvious. I wholeheartedly recommend Prof.

Professor Sutcliffe provided excellent care during our recent appointment. He was extremely attentive, taking the time to listen to all of our concerns in detail, and his advice was both thoughtful and practical. His calm and patient approach made us feel reassured, and we truly appreciated his ability to explain complex issues in a way that was easy to understand. What stood out the most was his deep understanding of our child's situation and his personalised recommendations for the next steps. He offered valuable insights into how to manage our child's selective eating, and we left the consultation feeling more confident about how to proceed.

Professor Sutcliffe alongside many other amazing staff oversaw my sons care at T11on UCLH for 4 years between 2016-2020. Aways at the forefront of ideas and trying out new things, professor Sutcliffe was a very proactive doctor and my son benefitted from his care and support. I cannot thank him enough for his reassurance and support over the years with my son Leon, even in life threatening situations where my son was gravely poorly. A call with Professor Sutcliffe this week was so helpful in the sense of the future and hope, especially with advances in science and genetics, with a chain of thought that diagnosis in the future via genetics or proteomics/AI was very possible. It’s been nearly 4 years since he saw my son, but he remembered so much - it was amazing to hear and I felt very humbled. Some really thoughtful suggestions and ideas An amazing doctor - genuinely one of a kind. Sensitive, good people person, wonderfully warm and kind. One of the best paediatric consultants we have in the UK. Thank you Lyn, Leon and Ian

Prof Alastair is truly one in a million! We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude and wholeheartedly recommend Professor S, for his exceptional care of my son during the many years of admissions on T11 at UCLH. Professor Alastairs remarkable combination of empathy and extensive knowledge in the field is truly commendable. Not only does he stay up to date with the latest scientific developments & innovations , but his presence is so warm and bright. He always had a rejuvenating effect on our son (and us as well) ! A very empathetic doctor, he always left us filled with optimism for the future. I am immensely grateful for Professor Alastairs expertise and compassionate care, and I wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone seeking quality peadiatric care.

Professor Sutcliffe was one of the first people to see our son when he was rushed into Broomfields hospital recently, and his experience and knowledge to identify the problem and prompt need for strong IV antibiotics no doubt saved our son’s life as he also had sepsis on top of the diagnosed psoas abscess. We owe so much to his care, quick thinking and leadership of the (incredible) team. The Professor listened to us and our son, both together and separately, explaining his symptoms and understanding that we knew he wasn’t well. At a time of immense stress, the reassurance and confidence we felt from his approach helped our son feel less anxious and us as parents extremely content that we were in the best of hands. The Professor involved our son in our discussions and treated him as an individual. His bed side manner was both professional and calming at a time of incredible stress. We will always owe so much to Professor Sutcliffe - if you are lucky enough to be in his care then you are truly blessed.
