Expertise: Professor Ben Miranda is a fully accredited, board-certified, dual qualified Plastic Surgeon and Hand Surgeon, and a Medicolegal Expert Witness. He holds a substantive Consultant post at the internationally renowned St Andrew's Centre for Plastic Surgery & Burns, one of the largest specialist Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery Centres in Europe, where he regularly performs complex plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery. Professor Ben Miranda is the St Andrew's Anglia Ruskin (StAAR) Research Group Lead and a Visiting Professor at the School of Medicine. He has over 120 peer-reviewed plastic surgery, hand surgery and cosmetic surgery publications and presentations at national and international level, with aspects of his PhD having been front cover published by the British Journal of Dermatology. Professor Ben Miranda is the author of 2 best-selling surgical textbooks and has over 20 academic prize awards and distinctions. He is therefore in a position to be able to evaluate the highest quality of medical evidence and advances in treatment, and offer the best possible care that is tailored to the unique requirements of every patient that he treats. Plastic Surgery Training: Professor Ben Miranda studied medicine at University College London, during which time he also completed a BSc. After completing a Plastic Surgery PhD, supervised by Professor David Sharpe OBE, he ranked 1st place in the Plastic Surgery national recruitment process and was subsequently awarded a training programme in London. Professor Ben Miranda undertook his Plastic Surgery training at prestigious university-associated teaching hospitals in London (including UCL, Royal Free, Chelsea & Westminster, St Mary's Paddington). Cosmetic Surgery & Hand Surgery Fellowship Training: After being awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Plastic Surgery, Professor Ben Miranda subsequently undertook further specialist training in Cosmetic Surgery and Hand Surgery. He completed 2 Aesthetic fellowships at leading international Cosmetic Surgery institutions (Wellington Hospital, London Clinic, King Edward VII) and 2 prestigious Hand Surgery fellowships (Pulvertaft Hand Surgery Centre, Chelsea & Westminster Hand Surgery Unit). Professor Miranda has also gained further experience abroad in Australia, Europe and across the UK. Academic Qualifications & Medical Education Involvement: In addition to completing a PhD, Professor Ben Miranda was successfully awarded both the British (DipHandSurg) and European (EBHS) Diplomas in Hand Surgery. He was subsequently appointed as an official tutor for the BSSH British Hand Diploma (University of Manchester); this is a higher sub-specialty qualification for Plastic Surgeons and Orthopaedic Surgeons wishing to undertake a career in Hand Surgery. Professor Ben Miranda supervises Plastic Surgery trainees, organises and is regularly invited to participate in a variety of national and international surgical training courses, and is also a Visiting Senior Clinical Lecturer and Educational Supervisor at Anglia Ruskin University School of Medicine where he is responsible for the training of undergraduate medical students.
