Ms Neumann went to great lengths to explain, both verbally and with visual illustration, what was wrong and how she proposed to treat it (a perforated eardrum and a runny nose). She combined professional competence with pastoral concern and I left the consultation with the assurance that my best interests were being served, and subsequent procedures would have a positive outcome. As member of a caring profession myself, I regarded this experience as a textbook example of how to do it.
