I feel blessed to have had Mr Shah and his team operate on me at Guy's Hospital for a double hip replacement. No wonder all the reviews on him give him 5 stars. I would give more if I could, as he is such a superb surgeon and a very kind man. I had a total left hip replacement at Guy's on 25 October 2017, which was completely successful (see my review of 28 December 2017). Because of Mr Shah's skill, and all the hard work I put into doing the exercises he recommended, I recovered from that incredibly quickly. So much so, that when I saw him for my 6-week check-up after that operation, he was happy to book me immediately for the second operation on my right hip. I then had a total right hip replacement at Guy's on 28 February 2018. I was warned a few times before the operation that just because the first one had been so successful, it didn't necessarily mean that the second one would go as well. So I was a bit apprehensive, but it was just as successful as the first. In fact even better really, as I had had more time to do all the physiotherapy and exercises Mr Shah had given to me at my initial consultation. I was put completely at ease before the operation and I appreciated Mr Shah visiting me afterwards to tell me that everything had gone well. I had regular visits on the ward from him and his team, and the physiotherapists also visited me regularly. I did so well that I was discharged on day 2 after the operation. I continued with my exercises at home, and after one week I used just one crutch and after two weeks I didn't need crutches or a stick. It is now a little over 6 months since my first hip replacement and 2 months since my second. I continue to do the exercises daily, including in the pool twice a week, which has also helped me to lose lots of weight. I am doing all my activities as I did years ago, able to walk, do up my shoelaces, and lead a normal pain-free life. I am even back doing Scottish country dancing which is not bad for a 70 year old! Mr Shah and his team have transformed my life, and my husband says I have my sparkle back again. My recommendations are that you should rigorously carry out the pre- and post-operative exercises in the booklet Mr Shah produced, have your surgery done at Guy's, and choose Mr Shah as your surgeon. There is nothing about my treatment that could have been any better.
